Hello hello, everybody, and today we’re going to discover the rightful owners to each and every abandoned island! With the recent developments in islands, there’s not a single island added that isn’t owned by somebody who’s not there anymore! Besides Ierochos I guess.
Let’s start with the obvious.
-
Gloam Ruins
This is an easy one. It was owned by Winterveil -
Akursius Keep
Formerly owned by both Ravenna and Winterveil. It used to be the capital of Winterveil until it was destroyed. -
Blasted Rock
Formerly Cassia Town, owned by Ravenna until the Thorne Nation attacked. -
Whispering Caverns
Formerly a mine owned by Ravenna. The mine flooded, so they all left. -
Munera Garden
Formerly owned by Winterveil. Somewhat of a vacation spot, alongside being an arena.
Now the complicated ones.
-
Frostmill, the Frozen Peaks
Remember? The wrecked up wooden houses atop Frostmill? The ones with the giant underneath them?
Frankly, there isn’t even one detail that’d state who lived here. Nobody’s concerned for the former residents, no notes were left behind, it wasn’t destroyed by Iris.
Conclusion: Unknown -
Wind-Row Island
It’s not fully clear who owned this island. There is a flag of the Assassin Syndicate, but that’s it. For all we know, it could have just been that single house owned by the Assassins.
Edward Kenton stated that he once had to wreck an island full of innocent people for the Navy, it could have been Wind-Row, that’s fully speculation though.
Conclusion: Assassin Syndicate -
Cedar Arch
Strangely, it’s not at all clear why this island was used, not just by who. The only trace of whoever used to claim ownership was a lift overtop of a cave, with a map that matches with Blackreach.
Conclusion: Unknown -
Blackreach Island
This is a strange case. The island is based on a place that doesn’t exist, but it has structures that had to have been made by somebody who did exist.
The only trace of life with a name is the Astoria Kingdom, aka the Grand Navy.
The note is found at a shipwreck, and any ship can wash up at Blackreach, but it matches up thematically too.
The tower at the top of the island is based on the Silent Tower, owned by the Magic Council, who is a replacement for the Arcane Government, who is the Seven Seas equivalent to the Grand Navy.
Conclusion: Astoria Kingdom
Since the maze belongs to the Astoria Kingdom (maybe), and Cedar Arch has a map of the maze, Cedar is probably also owned by the Astoria Kingdom. -
Tidecliff Isle
I am completely lost on this one.
The flags are wholly torn, there’s no association to be made.
Where did the whirlpools come from? Who knows?
Conclusion: Unknown -
Makrinaos
The problem with this one is that there’s like, three different things that could be the owner, rather than the owner being unknown.
The obvious answer is the “Visigoths”. They were presumably ruled by The Banished King, which gives them an obvious hierarchy, so they fit. The Seekers of Sight may have owned it, but it’s more likely that they lived among the Visigoths without their knowledge.
Conclusion: Visigoths -
Shieldguard
With the numerous bodies on Shieldguard, it can be suspected that the Navy aren’t the rightful owners of the place.
You could speculate that the bodies are of people who tried to get in, but the Navy isn’t sloppy, they’d clean up a mess such as that if they knew of it.
It’s not that certain though. Of course, any island designed by Tobi is bound to have random skeletons.
Conclusion: Rightfully owned by the Grand Navy -
Thrylos Crossing
I saved this for last, because it’s the biggest headscratcher.
First of all, we do find a single flag on this island, the flag of the Seekers of Sight. This means that they weren’t just hiding within the Makrinaos society, but multiple. The room with their flag is also clearly trying to tie them to the corrosive water, but I am unsure why. It’s worth noting that this water is also in a well on Thrylos, implying that they poisoned the water supply. Whoever lived here, the Seekers wanted their downfall, and likely caused it.
But who actually lived there? The furniture makes it seem like a very residential place. It couldn’t have been the Visigoths again, because their armor would have been left there.
The statues are very similar to those found on Blackreach, but we’re still not entirely sure who owned Blackreach, so we can’t say it was Astoria.
The sword wielded by the person who slayed the dragon underground looks just like the modern interpretation of the Durandal, but that doesn’t clue us in.
This is the million-dollar question, who lived on Thrylos Crossing?
