A small change, but what I’m suggesting is to add a bit more texture and stuff. Basically, to add things like clams and kelp and small dunes and stuff to the seafloor.

Currently, the seafloor is just a plate, and that’s kind of boring. Why not add a tiny bit of modelling to the seafloor to make it look more… full?

To try to rephrase: Make the seafloor a bit less empty, maybe add some clams or kelp and stuff, and a couple of dunes

if it isn’t just a texture then people are gonna complain about performance even more

just uhhh have it unload when far away

It already does I think

it does not.

You’re telling me that when you’re at cirrus island the sea floor is still loaded? I highly doubt that. Also, even if it is, only the sea floor in your region would be enabled because of streaming enabled

well it could unload if vetex makes it do so

idk about the sea floor, but diving points do unload from far away

lag

I think this is mostly a good idea. I don’t think lag would be an issue, but a reason to not add this is that it might change the atmosphere of the sea. An empty and deep sea is oppressive and scary, but a sea with a bunch of funny creatures at the bottom looks more lively and perhaps welcoming (if you wanted to loot it). It depends on what Vetex wants to do with the ocean, but when I’ve briefly sunken into the ocean accidentally I did find it a bit creepy, and I like that atmosphere. I think some parts of the ocean should have decoration, perhaps the north part of the sea and nearby some lively islands, while some parts should keep their foreboding atmosphere, such as the south part of the sea.

Also about that one sentence in parentheses, if you added stuff at the seafloor players might think there’s actual loot there when it’s just decorative clams. Now the stuff at the seafloor could be interactable, but that might be too much lag or effort for something most players won’t interact with. Despite my counter-arguments I do think this would be cool.

streaming enabled isnt… enabled tho
literally caused more performances issues than it solved back when he tested it, and as far as i know he hasnt tried since

anyway clams would be missleading, kelp is basically the same as seaweed bjt i guess you can make it look different, and dunes would… probably work well enough? sure theyll probably clip with stuff but whatever
although im not sure what seafloor you are talking about. as far as remember, theres the sandy shore, the occasional small plate (rocky or sandy) around islands and some shallow areas such as the jaws, then the v o i d which you cant reach and doesnt even have any collision as i know

Pls no i don’t want my 10+ yr old computer suffering :sob:

Also the deeper the sea floor is, the less vegetation it should have and the less fish it is, since the water blocks most of the sunlight

yus :+1:

yeah I’m uh working on something that could give that feeling

my problem with this is how long it would take to make

just add a few dunes, anything other than just a plate.

tbh what I really want is for the floor to not be a baseplate with sand texture

I kinda wish that the seafloor in AA had the occasional treasure chest atleast, now that we are in AO i don’t really see whynot, as long as it doesn’t lag out the game of course
