[AO] Personal Feedback Collection

Hi there! It’s me, your favourite AO ex-forumer! As I said when I became green a few months ago, I want to keep track of what the community is feeling. We are very very close to skyhall being added (Which means story content will begin again at long last) and I think now’s a great time to ask a few questions. Just a few notes:

Notices

  • This is not official. I have made this topic of my own accord so I personally (That’s me) can see what everyone is thinking.
  • Content is liable to change before full release. Everything you’ve seen whether here, in Patreon, or in your dreams may not be what you get when the update is done.
  • I have no interest in balance or pvp.
  • I might be able to bring up concerns for discussion but I have no magical powers other than that.

Questions

in case you can’t think of any points to bring up yourself…

  • What do we think of the new QoL features Moochezz has been adding recently (Keybindings, Searchbar). Is there anything else similar to this that you’d like to see?
  • New weapon skills. Are you liking what’s been posted on the twitter so far?
  • What’s your opinion on the potential merging of the community servers into Vetcord?
  • Here’s the one public sneak of an island in the Nimbus Lands. What do we think? I personally love the colours and the style of this one.
  • What’s your biggest complaint with AO right now?
  • What’s your favourite thing about AO right now?

General Discussion

Please keep all discussion civilised. Thanks!

I think Moochezz is the best part of AO

Fighting against metaslaves feels like stepping on dogshit when walking down a street; You turned over the corner, didn’t see it, and couldn’t do anything to avoid it.

Fantastic. It’d be nice if ascending prices was the default in the market, and treasury was the default for building.

I am going to make a fire paladin so I can make it rain fire. I hope to see more crazy skills like that.

Inventory management, I have a whole lot of different items of different modifications, dyes, enchants, and levels, allowing a “simplified” view that only shows the base item initially, and then expands to show variants would be nice.

The character customization. I spend most of my time playing with vanity options, I like being able to tweak moves and make fun move names, I would be very happy if this was to be expanded to weapons.

The current lack of any replayable pve-based content that is also enjoyable. For a game that is advertised for being mainly pve, it sure doesn’t give that side a whole lot to work with post-story.

long overdue but im glad stuff like that is finally being added

maybe being able to set where you wanna spawn when you change seas

i dont use weapons but they do look very nice, spirit weapons are even cooler though

i only use vetcord for stalking vetex so im neutral about it

ivoris itself is massive and ive been wanting to see larger scale cities for a while, caitara and especially rubica feel a little small for capital cities. the castle is incredible especially after seeing the patreon sneaks of it

no griddy and dab

clan building is very cool

guess what qol rework I’m gonna say in response to this

peak because now I can figure out where the low priority section on the balance Trello went (NOBODY HAS GIVEN ME A REAL ANSWER)

yet again guess, I’ll give you a hint, its related to my first guessing question

Metal conj

Ok I cant hold it in anymore time to complain about modifiers

I fucking hate them, the concept of a mechanic that invalidates 80% of armor thats very clearly built to not be rare, but is and continues to get rarer and rarer each update is so utterly stupid I cannot fathom how no dev has said anything about changing it yet, the fact that meta posted a perfect rework on the Trello, and what it took for him to make it, is absolutely absurd is a prime example of a couple of the major issues plaguing ao’s development process, and the fact that meta then moved it to low priority after marketplace when that didn’t help at ALL (offloading the suffering to someone else does not stop the suffering) is completely idiotic. PLEASE rework them in full release I will genuinely tweak out if they aren’t changed.

sorry if I sound rude I just genuinely hate modifiers with all my heart and soul

it’s gonna make things wayyy more skilled, I wish i was better at pvp…

they’re very cool

I probably don’t know what this means, but i’m against it.

actually think it’s really really sweet
when’s the update I haven’t played the game in months

dont care about any of em i just use m1

bro folded under no pressure :sob:

the pressure on my soul from the existence of modifiers is greater than anything the mortal realm could apply

wrong!!

and yet in the abyss, a glimmer of hope shines through

biggest complaint is M1s being useless in combat. look at marvel rivals, they made m1s in third person shooter we can have them too

pvp/the lore/the story/the lore

my biggest reason for hating Modifiers is that island chests serve no purpose anymore since they don’t give modified gear. Islands already felt kinda empty, the fact that you can’t get anything useful doesn’t help.

“But the economy!!!” my ass, put a limiter on the level for golden and silver chests or give me death (magic (at level 140))

Rant about skinner boxes and luck based skinner boxes that are worse.

I detest sunken items. Modifiers are fine, they provide use to otherwise obsolete armour (though I despise their obtainment method), but sunkens?
They render any armour with similar statistics obsolete. The Dark Bronze and Cernyx sets? Obsolete, Sunken Warrior exists. Attack size + Defense armour? Doesn’t exist because Sunken Iron does and is deemed to be ‘common’.
I hate how the strongest items are locked behind extreme RNGs (you have more chances of getting a shiny pokémon) which itself is found solely within the most boring activities of the game: fishing (brain death) and diving (euthanasia).

But do you know what I hate more than sunkens? The future of Arcane Odyssey.
What will become of past armours when there will be objectively more powerful versions of them? There’s so few stats, yet so many future boss drops, lost treasures, sunken loot, and chest items. Some are bound to repeat themselves, so what will be different with them? Their level range, that’s it (despite it not being lore accurate).
In the future that I predict, you will either have to repeatedly farm boss drops from different stages of the game in order to have a chance, or early boss drops will become wholly obsolete. Inventory clutter? It’ll be much worse than it is now, and it’s already terrible.

Sorry for the doom-posting, ranting, and uncessant negativity. I can’t help but think that this will be how Arcane Odyssey turns out, and I hate it.

I never really cared too much personally about adding keybinds, but it’s still a really great feature to have and I’m glad the people that wanted it have gotten it. Inventory search is genuinely a dream come true

They’re cool, I don’t particularly have much interest in weapons (other than spirit weapons for my paladin file) but its nice that weapons are finally getting more of their kit compared to the like, 5 skills they’ve gotten in the last 2 years

I don’t really care, I do think it makes sense to have the servers be separated so they can allow for focused conversations and communities but I guess its not uncommon for everything to be centralized through the main server

Looking forward to exploring it, cities and main kingdom islands are typically the ones I look forward to the most in AO so this’ll be fun to visit. Hopefully there are a lot of NPCs with interactable dialogue, since I know some ppl wished there was more of those in Sameria given how huge it is.

The downtimes without updates can be extremely dry and are in my opinion the main reason the game lost a lot of the attention it initially received. Of course things of this quality take a lot of time, but due to the nature of AO it doesn’t really feel like the kind of game that can keep players without more consistent updates. Bugs, balance problems, and quality of life features can take multiple months to make it into the main game which can really serve to drive away players by taking too long to fix their issues with the game.

I don’t really have too much to do in the game at the moment, I still enjoy the atmosphere so I get on every now and then to take that in and roam around islands for a bit.

I think it would be nice if rare spells and techniques had a bit of lore on them which explains why/where they were initially created, or something else notable.
they just feel kinda flat
