Let’s get real, Arcane Odyssey as a whole is already predatory, even without the addition of this gamepass (though of course I am not saying that it should be excused for such a reason).
Summary
Sunken treasures are predatory (though not as much anymore since their stats got lowered to only giving 50 more defense than cernyx’s set)
Boss drop chances are predatory
Modifiers are predatory
Lost treasures are predatory
The existence of luck potions is predatory
Fishing is predatory
The Dark Sea is predatory
Sealed chests are predatory
Schematics are predatory (in what world do plans disappear after you refer to them? ̄へ ̄)>
Enchanting used to be predatory (because it’s an obsolete feature now)
Some quests are predatory
Special abilities are predatory (dodge reflex being locked behind a quest [that soon will be obsolete but will be made worse since there will be three new trainers like that act in the same way] )
What else is there that’s predatory (even if just a little) in AO? Sailing? File limits and purchases? The gamepasses that lock some very desirable features behind a paywall?
I know that Vetex needs to earn some dough from AO somehow, but is this truly the best way to do it? I don’t know, especially on a platform like Roblox.
Explain how this differs from daily quests, energy limits, events, etc. in order to have players spend more time playing the game than necessary if such mechanics weren’t present to begin with.
Sol’s RNG is always called out for being predatory, bad, and artificial, yet these mechanics aren’t?
If luck wasn’t as prominent in Arcane Odyssey, not only would its future be brighter, but you would have to spend less time on it.
Since when was it normal and socially acceptable to spend two hours repeatedly defeating a boss in order to get all five of its drops?
I’m really hoping that this is a genuine question that isn’t rhetorical, especially since it’s you, the individual who complains about hecate essences the most, who asked it. As a side note, you all should try to learn from Masashiro Sakurai. He made a youtube channel detailing game design in both English and Japanese to help prevent mistakes, initiate people to the subject, and has an amazing design philosophy. Here’s a link to his channel in English.
A summary for the lazy ones
Go learn about the subject before blindly commenting please.
Oh, wait, this is a “summary” for the lazy ones to read through…
The kind that wants you to have fun instead of having you spend time in their game, no?
This question HAS to be rhetorical, you can’t just tell me that you forgot what games are.
I hate to break it to you man, but vetex still has to pay the bills
yeah games were made to be fun, and he’s done a great job at that, but features like these make sure people have fun with what they have and can stay on the game longer
The only thing that I can think of would be asking for people who truly enjoy the game to support it financially, which likely won’t happen if it doesn’t appeal to a more aged audience, which likely won’t happen if AO stays in such a state.
It’s a gamble, so I understand the idea of not risking it, and is why I rarely ever complain about this. It’s unreasonable of me to expect someone to gamble with their living.
Is it the biggest contributor to his earnings though? I’d really like to know, because in that case, it may have higher chances.
One thing I didn’t explain though is that it would require a lengthy amount of time and increased expenses in advertising for it to come to fruition, so it would probably overrides the potentially increased odds.
just cause it has chance involved doesn’t mean it’s predatory
the only thing i’ll say about this is the random lightning strikes and water poisoning are bullshit
game having change =/ predatory
wait until this guy learns about minecraft smithing templates
no comment
so give them guaranteed points (like with treasure chart 1/5 quests) after a given number of attempts (every 10 or so spots)
fym those are cool
any normal player could find those if they look at the game description for explorer badges, or look at exploration tasks and see “oh theres a quest here i havent completed”
mf boutta go “walking is predatory” cause he doesnt like to spend time on playing games
Minecraft is predatory because I might not be able to spot many ores in my cave system, nor find a Bastion Remnant in the nether quickly.
Anyways you do realize this is an RPG, and as such small timesinks are necessary? It would only be predatory if you could like, pay to get these items rather than grind, but that’s not how it works (no, Hecate Essence isn’t predatory either, Vetex straight up doesn’t want you buying it).
