Classes and abilities and tiers in AO tend to be weird to understand at first. So I thought of this way to make it simpler and more lore accurate.
1.AWAKENING / CLASS CHANGES
As Vetex said, awakenings dont exist in the lore where anyone would be able to learn more magic and abilities given time and experience. It also doesnt make sense how a mage cant spend some stat points to learn weapons and viceversa.
The awakening part of the story can stay as an added requirement to awaken, however, awakenings should be stat based. If I spend 125pts in both magic and weapons, I gain the ability to imbue like a Conj. And in the future, if I can use a lost or ancient magic, then I would only need 125pts in weapons to be able to imbue into them.
No class locking. If I’m a berserker and I want to learn a lost magic, then I’d need like 600 stat points for it (which in the process would give me 2nd & 3rd magic making me a Warlock and potentially a Mage) but its still possible.
2.ATTACK TIER CHANGES
Tiers are a mess, savants can get to the same tier as mages because the game forcefully decreases the stat amount per tier. This is inelegant design, and its the same thing as tying tiers to your overall level but much weirder.
Your dmg/size for all abilities should be tied to your level cap, not stat investment, all abilities should have the same size no matter the build, and specking into a class would just let you unlock more abilities for it (like class specific imbues, 2nd magics & more).
TLDR:Essentially make Awakenings sort of like skills you learn once you reach a certain level in that stat (locked until you reach said part in the story), and tie attack tiers to your level cap.
probably easier honestly, if an ability’s too strong then you increase the requirement or you nerf it in some way that from now on affects all builds the same
i am a savant. this feels kinda like trying to go back to AA (in a way at least) where depending where you put your stats you get something.
i feel like this would work for world of magic but it feels like it doesnt fit AO.
I like the idea
but reasonably does not make sense for the game. Would be really fun though the issue may arrise with weapons and vit if this were to get added sounds fun
to be real here I wish we could go back to AA, I want my character to use the coolest magic weapons and fighting style at the same time, I wish builds were just combinations of those and gear stats, I dont like being locked to 1 playstyle or a weaker version of all of them.
And this is the way our player is in the lore, so idk why vetex didnt just make the game around that
savant is actually really weaker. it works like how you explained it pretty much (other than being locked to maximums). it will probably just never get enough points for ancient (unless investing 50% into magic allows it)
Imagine being able to not awaken then you would have what you said just without the awakening buffs no second access or imbue
i mean access to better skills in some other place. Honestly i would be fine with this change or a change that specifically only doesn’t lock your build (awakening might be an issue if it is only being unlocked)
also fightning like theos sounds funny (or your a mage with a gun in your side pocket as well as a knife and 4 more guns)
