What even is the Atlantean infection?
Is it a bacteria? Virus? Parasite?
Is it just a particle?
What is it?
It spreads through magic pollution and open wounds, so what is it exactly?
Until there is a canon explanation for what exactly it is in game, this is how i interpret it (based on Crimsonâs Conquest of Othrys)
canonically, i would imagine its like radiation poisoning but it turns you into a mutant ig
having an Atlantean touch you would probably speed it up since they are covered in said radiation
also to be clear, magic radiation and your own magic energy are DIFFERENT
Magic radiation is caused by the fact the energy in the dark C is a combination of like 50+ magics

Even if itâs a poison, it would be made of compounds, sure we donât know exactly what, but the fact that it would be compounds if it were a poison is already a lot of information

i honestly cant say for certain what it is, but i dont think itd be like. a physical thing like poison or venom that can be collected (though atlantean blood can be weaponized ig)
its just SOMETHING that seems to latch onto spirit energy and drain it/change it
ive always just imagined that having an insane amount of magic pollution in your body is similar to how magical weather is formed in the dark sea (in a way)
like how the magic pollution in the dark sea creates magical weather i think it also creates magical growth for atlanteans or anybody infected
(if you wanna put science in it, ig the magic pollution would screw with your cells and DNA, this is also a reason for this AU it could be either nearly or entirely impossible to cure, since radiation poisoning harms your DNA as well and if itâs severe enough youre basically unsaveable)
the fish and general sea designs of atlanteans i think were a stylistic choice mainly, but i think vetex has some reasoning for that too i just forgot it

it honestly feels more like some form of radiation, with the dark sea epicenter being the Dark Seaâs âelephantâs footâ/Chernobyl
Warding seems to act like a magical lead suit, protecting you from the harmful radiation, while the water poisoning can act just like radiation poisoning, causing your cells to rapidly break down
