Arcane Adventures: Book 1: Chapter XV - Trigno

One day later, The Rumbling Caldera

~Pax’s POV~

The man who saved us, Trigno, sits across from me. William is on the deck waiting for me while I talk to someone who’s apparently wanted by the AG.

“Hello Pax,” Trigno says. He speaks like no one else I’ve ever met. His accent is light, but noticeable. Not that I can say I don’t have an accent. William said that I had one while we were sailing to Savaria.

Even without a sensing ability, I can feel the magic energy emitting from him.

“Now then,” Trigno begins. “Let’s get to the point. We both have one goal here. To find out what’s going on at Kairo. Well, as it happens to be, I know exactly what’s going on.”

“How?” I ask.

“Simple. I can sense. Just like your friend up on the deck. I sensed something up there at the top of the tower. An energy similar to people like me.”

My eyes widen. Theos had told me about these people on Newground Island. The were called Curse Users. And I was having a conversation with one of them.

“A curse user lives up there?” I ask.

“Not just any curse user,” Trigno responds. “King Ramses II.”

“Wha-”

“Now I understand your confusion, but listen closely and you will understand.”

“Ok?”

“Savaria has had 2 kings in its lifespan, both of whom are curse users. Ramses I was the original owner of the Sand Curse until he was killed by his son when he bacame a tyrant, who took the curse for themselves. Ramses the II ruled since until a dark wizard killed him and his army at Kairo earlier this month. Then, 3 days later, reports of a dark presence at Kairo emerged around the same time a tornado tore through the First Sea. I was in a battle with Veridies at the time and the tornado hit after I filled his ship with magma. The same ship that landed in the Cumulus Islands. Our ship was damaged and we limped here, to Savaria, where the Arcane Government had taken control. Reese, one of our former members, offered to get us the supplies to repair the ship if we helped him investigae Kairo. He also asked for your help because I said I would think about it and he was preparing for the possibility we declined. Now as for your question, King Ramses II was most likely revived by the same dark wizard, and they must have revived the army as well. They must also have given the undead king a portion of his Sand Curse. I say a portion because I sensed that his energy as more dim than before, although I could be wrong.”

I let it sink in for a moment.

“So what are we going to do?” I ask.

“Simple,” Trigno responds. “We will end the darkness at Kairo.”

He gets up and walks to the door. Just before he opens it, he turns to me again.

“And another thing,” he says. “If you tell anyone about our presence, if you betray us, if you tell the Arcane Government about us, I will find out, and I will kill both you and your little friend. You do not want to make an enemy of the Mantle Pirates.”

He walks out the door as I shiver from the threat.

He’s not bluffing at all.
