Later that day, Kairo
~Pax’s POV~
Me, William, and Trigno stand at the base of the tower, looking at the top.
“4 floors above us,” Trigno says. “Each one contains a horde of undead except for the top floor, where Ramses II should be. We’ll have to fight our way to the top to reach him.”
Me and William nervously exchange looks. Trigno’s threat hangs over our heads like a sword. If he decides to kill us, we can’t do anything.
“For fucks sake,” William swears. “What are we waiting for? Let’s go.”
Trigno smiles.
“I thought you’d never ask,” he says.
3 minutes later
BAM!
Trigno blasts through another horde of undead as we run through the 4th floor. I look back at William as we follow him.
“He’s holding back,” William had said when we cleared the 2nd floor. “If he was alone, he would be pushing Ramses II by now.”
“But why?” I asked.
“Because if I didn’t hold back you two would have been dead,” Trigno had responded.
I charge my magic dagger. William readies his sword. Trigno doesn’t react.
It’s as if he knows our weapons aren’t for him.
We run up the stairs and exit onto the roof of the tower.
Standing there is a man. He turns to us, his eyes cold and lifeless. I can feel an energy similar to Trigno’s radiating off of him, but it feels weaker, like a mockery of what it should have been.
“Ramses,” Trigno says. “What happened to you?”
The king doesn’t respond. He lifts his hands as if he was a puppet being controlled by strings and the sand on the floor begins to swirl around him.
BAM!
Me and William are sent flying into the wall as a burst of sand is unleashed.
