Some of you might know what this game is, it essentially takes themes from lineage games but spins it into a fully PvE, co-operative turn-based RPG. It had a unique concept that was actually quite fun especially with friends, however it also had monumental problems that ended up destroying it in the long run.
However, since then it’s received a new dev team intent on reviving it and fixing all these issues. They’ve been listening to community feedback over the past year they’ve been working on the game, patching up the backend, rebuilding the entire map, redoing the animations and reworking every class, and so on.
A few of the major QoL improvements they've made
A proper trading system rather than just trust trading
A proper tutorial
Soul point tracker
Increased gold cap
Reduced Way of Life mossy rune requirement
A lot less bugs and better protection against wiping to them
increased boss drops (so you don’t spend 20 hours on this)
Boss refight system that doesn’t require constant teleporting (except it’s supposedly bugged)
The accessory system is being completely replaced by something more similar to terraria (no more farming Yar’thul for 20 hrs hoping for a B+2 in an actually useful stat)
There’s more but that’s just what I can remember from the top of my head
Seeing other games’ updates taking so much longer than AO’s updates and having so much less content kinda makes me feel awesome about AO and how much worse other communities have it
It will never be making an ‘insane comeback’.
It’s a wiki RPG featuring permanent character death, the only visuals that have changed are that of the world (causing a conflict between it and its enemies as they’re of two very differing qualities), the world map itself seem to be riddled of free meshes with no intricate details added to it, and the gameplay itself won’t change.
Can we gets game that have actual tutorials and good hints on how to progress further instead of just shoving all the information on a wiki and expecting people to read that before playing?
Doesn’t help that the map is also just 90% empty space for no real reason aside from extending play time.
‘hints’ aren’t truly necessary in order to make gameplay and its progression intuitive.
One could make a story to give direct instructions to players, make environmental cues ‘hint’ what and where players should go, and just have a fleshed out gameplay loop that feeds into its next part.
dang y’all are ruthless I just posted this here because I saw some people post their Arcane Lineage fits in the drip check thread and thought they might be excited to see this
I’ve played it before and aside from a few poorly explained mechanics like morality and the thorian rune puzzle (and marks ) you can pretty much find everything by just wandering the map and talking to the NPCs.
You will probably want to play with the wiki open though honestly I’m just used to that atp from playing games like AO, Terraria, taxi simulator, build a boat, etc.
From what I’ve heard the original game essentially a poorly scripted first project for the original dev and the backend was so bad it would’ve been easier to make a sequel then continue developing it, if they’ve actually gone and redone the whole backend like they claim I imagine that must’ve taken a while.
Also this update isn’t small, the amount of issues with the previous game that they’re fixing is enough that it’s going to play completely differently from before.
some of the issues of the old game (MASSIVE rant warning) (only look through this if you're horribly curious)
a million different bugs that could end up literally just killing you for no reason against your control. My friend literally hopped on a few days ago only for this to happen:
about a thousand more bugs that can end up deleting various items various ways
Progression based around insanely rare boss drops with a hundred different variations so you have to just hope they line up to create a B+2 accessory with an actual useful type (not very nice in a permadeath game)
No trading system because it’s supposed to be trust trading like Rogue Lineage, even though in this game you can’t kill the other person for attempting to steal from you.
Balance so terrible it genuinely caused a lot of players (including myself) to quit
Meta-of-the-week classes could practically one-tap the final boss while the others are unusable
Constant rebalances that ended up fostering distrust because if you worked hard to progress a slot chances are it was just going to get nerfed into oblivion
Balancers were primarily concerned with keeping the top 1% of sweaty metamancers from beating the final boss intended to be fought with the ultra classes that aren’t released yet nor currently being worked on
Severe gatekeeping because if these metamancers actually shared their tricks they’d just end up getting nerfed
It’s still 3x nicer than deepwoken because this game doesn’t have non-consentual PvP at all so for the most part if you die it’s going to be your own mistakes.
The only PvP this game has are non-lethal duels that only exist for fun and never have any influence over the balance.
The soul point tree that carries between lives also has EXP gain buffs and stat increases you can invest into that let me literally progress a slot to max level in about an hour
i mean its not surprising, ao forums will see permadeath and instantly shit on the game even though its damn near impossible to actually wipe in AL on normal mode
anyway, im pretty excited. this game was hella fun with friends and seeing it improve just feels great
having a new devteam is the best thing thats ever happened to this game
