Roblox has been tearing itself apart from inside out. We’ve known this for a while, and I even took a poll in Sykadelik’s Forum Surveys on whether or not AO should leave Roblox, despite the delays, and 91% said that it should.
I made this thread because I wanted that idea to reach further and for the forum to collectively give ideas for the devs to use in the scenario that this idea gains traction.
Honestly AO as a concept can only really thrive on a site like Roblox, plus moving the game off of this site would mean having to re-do everything currently made which I doubt vetex wants to do
Also the very obvious issue of not only buying servers but also the continued costs for maintenance and what not
its kind of bleak to be honest unless roblox fixes itself after a ton of backlash and the assassination of david
hell, what would the art style and direction be off roblox? hes also gonna have to recreate a shit ton of assets that originally used roblox’s stuff, and a majority of AO lies in the fact that its in roblox so hes gonna have to recreate a ton of other shit too for his systems
Either A. Vetex just sucks it up and pays the $5/month fee to keep the game accessible or B. He full-stops any further game development and pivots into writing
Realistically, he would just pay for plus. If roblox truly fucks over AO, like MrYes said, he would just straight up just go write the novel and most likely abandon AO as a game project
It’s far too difficult creating a copy of one of your projects in an entirely different game engine, whilst still too allowing for multiplayer (to which you have to make yourself), anti-cheat, saving of data on the server to prevent changes to it.
Roblox is the only place for Arcane Odyssey, even if Roblox is shooting its concept of a foot, it can’t move away.
Additionally, if you wanted Arcane Odyssey transferred to another platform, you’d need to pay for it, as running servers for both multiplayer and data saving isn’t cheap.
well, some things get easier. If AO becomes a singleplayer or even co-op game, which it can be converted to losslessly, that’d mean no more balance struggle, no more PvP troubles, and no more economy.
It’s just a matter of making an RPG instead of an MMO RPG, and I think the reason AA and AO are MMOs is just because they’re on a multiplayer platform.
Besides, if we do stay on Roblox, the mutiplayer won’t be any good thanks to the updates.
Arcane Odyssey is carried heavily by Roblox’s engine; the physics, the networking, the rendering, you get the idea.
You can’t convert a Roblox game over to another engine, even if it did utilize Lua, as not only does Roblox use Luau - a fork of Lua - but you’d also need your own models from scratch, own servers for networking and data, basically everything.
