Arcane Odyssey and moving off-Roblox

people keep shouting “move the game off the platform” but they often forget how many conveniences roblox brings to the table. I just made a quick search and apparently just server hosting alone would cost thousands of dollars per month, which roblox handles for free

the only hope for odyssey moving off roblox is if it becomes a singleplayer game and it keeps a similar artstyle, though I can’t see vetex doing it and I can’t say I blame him for it

Honestly the only alternative I could see working would be finding something similar to Roblox such as Polytoria…

..Unfortunately that still would mean redoing the entire game from scratch plus learning an entirely new coding language

Rip roblox models and code

AO can’t move off roblox. It’s not even close to feasible. I think what people forget is that it wouldn’t just be making the game in a new programming language (in fact I would argue learning a new language would be the easiest part of this by far) but entire systems would have to be redone from the ground up in a completely different engine (even stuff as simple as dying is built into roblox). Most assets would need to be remade (which is expensive), it would have to be hosted on servers (which is expensive) and it could take years to remake (which again, financial strain).

Also, networking isn’t easy. Multiplayer games aren’t just as simple as having multiple people play the same game at the same time. You can have the server but there’s still so much effort that needs to be done before you can do anything with it.
You need to know stuff to be able to pull it off and that stuff isn’t easy to learn and takes time.

Can’t do that, stealing, and people would recognize it far too quickly and out the creator.
it’d also be stealing the engine code, not exactly legal.

It’s not as simple as you believe.

I would LOVE if we could all transfer off of the dumpster fire this platform is becoming.
Genuinely so bummed that my childhood game is turning into this.
But it’s just not possible looking through the replies.

Of course I voted yes; I’d love to see one of my favorite games escape the complete and utter collapse of Roblox, but it’s not feasible. I can’t think of a single way that it would work.

I do not believe AO needs to move off-Roblox. I explained my opinion in a previous post but I also don’t believe Roblox is “dying” regardless of decisions they’ve been making as of late.

Vetex has stated that moving AO off platform would require scripting, remaking the terrain, making original models, etc from the bottom up. It’ll just set back the game another 3-4 years of development, and for what? Only because people are fear mongering that Roblox is a dead platform?

hell nah that shit is like 80 bucks, you have to get it on sale.

Arcane Odyssey would be better off Roblox, even before this recent development that may make me and others unable to play it. Unfortunately, it is far easier said than done.

I think ao might truly be fucked, so unless vetex used blender for most of the models regarding monsters & other stuff its over for the game series unless vetex has more grit than half of valve.

absolutely not happening, even if u put aside the fact that the game would have like no players because growing a game outside of roblox is way harder, neither me or vetex have ever made a serious game outside of roblox and learning from 0 would take several years to get to the content that AO has right now

I frankly don’t think AO would have much of a future outside of Roblox without significant changes in the development process.

And what moochezz said.

I mean I suppose I am coping… I understand the answers.

The way I see it, AO has at least some eyes on it already, so at least it wouldn’t be starting from zero interest. Getting players on board the new boat as soon as possible with a playable demo would also help the matter.

True, but that amount of content could be built up to. Not saying it’d be easy by any stretch of the imagination, but a non-Roblox AO doesn’t need to come out of the gate with all the bells and whistles and every variant of the bells and whistles that Roblox AO had. Of course, it’d still be a significant amount of time which may not be practical or viable to spend on such an endeavor, I’m just saying that it doesn’t need to be v1.20.34.

If there’s internal problems that would hold development back that aren’t directly tied to Roblox, then that’s a whole different ball game and I’d consider leaving Roblox a lost cause based on that.

There’s also the financial angle: if Vetex is making a living off AO, then he might not be able to make such a big change without compromising the income gained by making updates to Roblox AO. If “absolutely not happening” is truly set in stone, then let’s hope that the recent announcement that kicked off this discussion doesn’t hurt the player count too badly.

Small problem; not every Roblox player will have something like Steam. No matter what, AO’s player base will take a considerable hit, and the game already only hovers around 1K.

Wishful thinking: Wishing that it was possible, independently of whether one acknowledges if it is.

That’s only the community that actually plays the game in a single moment on average not the whole playerbase

considering AA was abandoned bcs vetex dont wanna go back and fix everything since its all stuffs hes done before and that is boring for him, yea i doubt it
