To be fair, that was Elius explaining things with visuals. that wasnt an actual thing happening somewhere in the sea.
The answer is because one game knows how to use their characters to tell a story, and the other doesn’t
by his logic, it wasn’t in silas’s direct perspective so we shouldn’t be seeing it in the first place
yep, which at this point you just have to make your other characters more compelling meaning it goes right back to having the story’s perspective change to said other characters
Like in those filler moments where we do jackshit it could switch to a POV of Morden or something with their monologue that gives reasoning to their actions and how they are feeling
(id also like to see if Morden telling us to fuck off during the start of the game affects him later and such since that is pretty rude and mean to say to your only other alive friend that got inflicted with amnesia after all the whole escape ordeal)
Another issue I have with the AO story is how it doesn’t really feel like the narrative tries to surprise the player by subverting expectations but I don’t know how to explain that in more depth
Maybe this ties into the other problem I have with the story in that there isn’t really a coherent theme/message to the world besides “this is medieval and there is magic and pirates”
There was one specific piece of dialogue on windrow island where Morden said “Guess i’ll try to do some fishing”
Now, this angers me because this was the PERFECT opportunity to make the player go fishing with him and talk about things. But we didn’t do that. Because…i dont fucking know?
Too bad it was supposed to be a criticism thread. People don’t need to “spice up” their criticism by calling the developers lazy and incompetent.
It’s as civil as realistically possible so I’d consider it a success
Even if it wasn’t direct perspective rules, it’s still unknown to Silas, as not only do they have no memory, they didn’t even know Curses existed, so showing a VISUAL of curses could be put up to Silas’ imagination, except it isn’t, because THEY DON’T KNOW WHAT THEY LOOK LIKE.
AO is such a valuable thing, just being a game made for the sake of enjoyment for everyone in an economy like this that rewards greed.
I think criticizing so much and so harshly isn’t the kind of compensation this game deserves.
we have to give vetex a dose of “themes and such” otherwise the story wont really mean anything other than being a device for us to get stronger and accessing awakenings which is such a shame because i like the War Seas and AO world in general as flawed as it is.
also the whole place is named the FUcking War Seas, he could’ve gone with a story themed around humanity’s propriety to violence and how its encouraged in this fucked up broken world, explore more on the banality of evil through Ravenna
or at the very least have “war is bad” theming
With certain story chapters it also felt like it needed more time to marinate (Looking at Skyhall ![]()
![]()
) and the aforementioned more character focused moments (so that they can build up to Allanon’s rage by having us see skyhallians denying his idea, facing racism alongside his wife and how his mother & the other prince (forgot his name) fucking up his aspirations )
The dude has an imagination and retained enough memory to know how to speak. It’s not an isekai story where the protagonist is from another world where they wouldn’t know the basic shape of important things.
You’re taking his words a tad bit too literally. The only time his rule applies is in situations where we would suddenly jump to the other side of the sea to show us that something’s happening. Sure, him knowing what curses are shaped like is weird, but that’s just a little inconsistency.
We’ve had this game for years, we are perfectly allowed to criticize it to this amount if all we’ve seen is the execution of the game gradually or already present decrease in quality.
i know that you’re not being serious but I want to make it crystal clear here
I don’t hate on odyssey because I dislike vetex or the game itself
quite the contrary, I LOVE arcane odyssey, I love the world vetex built and the characters in it, and I dislike vetex because he’s handling everything with such disdain and lack of care
I understand that he has to make the game on top of writing it, but that doesn’t excuse the missed opportunities
(cutscenes for talent quests, specifically the oathkeeper talent questline having a short cutscene upon finding the boss, the fact that jorund would have been a perfect setup for an entire questline with redwake and would have given alfarin and redwake in general a much deserved glow up/character development just to name those two)
all of the many, many issues the story has at the moment nor does his arrogance and attitude make it any better
I really, really want to like odyssey more than I do, but I find it very hard when the people at the wheel are actively steering the bus off a cliff
I think it would’ve been a cool narrative if maybe AO toyed into the idea of doing bad things without realizing it and the nature of morality but idk bygones be bygones
I just feel like most people aren’t being really constructive with criticism
It’s stocksounds bro just ignore them
since when are we not chill??
