Arcane Odyssey fan-made Mutation Chart

What’s the difference between finding a scroll and finding a “shard”? It’d be the same benefits if you just made shards able to give you any magic, which they canonically can.

nah you are thinking of their ability to create new magics which mutate off of the old one. if you get a hecate shard with water you cant create blaze with it

Was it ever established that it has to be related to an existing one?

Who am I kidding? None of this was established. Was it said though?

yeah but I don’t have access to the lore doc right now

Somebody’s gonna have to show me, I can’t right now either.

Quick, access the lore doc as fast as you can and prove you were right!!

Very well then, but still, a scroll has no explanation, as opposed to a piece of the god of magic. That could very well be changed for gameplay to give any magic.

I still think the mutation system has warmed up to me, though. I’m just giving the example.

Reading comprehension exams always came back to you face down, huh?
If you had any, you’d read my comment, and understand that it means there would be one (1) lost spell scroll ( :scroll:). And by using this one (1) spell scroll (:scroll:) , you could get any magic (:magic_wand:) of your choice, once (1).
Which is Hecate’s shard (:crystal_magic_var3:), but without mutations that restrict ( :no_entry_sign:) your choice.
But who am I to expect reading comprehension from an average forumer?

Neither do spell scrolls, do they? You find a piece of paper that suddenly lets you blast a ton of magic in front of you. Besides, the lore doc itself states that you can “learn” magics after your first one. And if we can learn spells from paper, why couldn’t we do the same with magic, when the lore doc clearly states that is how people get more magics.

I mean, with a spell scroll, you can at least infer that it’s like a lego instruction booklet or something,

But the lore document still says you can learn any amount of magics if you’re born with your first one, which means that there are instructions to use any magic
Which is a lost/ancient magic scroll

Ehh, seems more like a thing where you have to figure it out on your own.

wait why does light have neutron? that makes zero sense to me

also it’s strange for earth to have gravity but not pressure, which is just stronger gravity pretty much

you could probably give wave to more magics like shadow and light too, though i don’t see how it fits for lightning at all

Your phrasing wasn’t great, but sure, but when was the last time vetex made a decision better for players that conflicted with his lore?
Plus it is just another way to maintain players. People will try to get the lost magic they want, they either reset a save or grind for Hecate essence, both of which will take a fair amount of time

I feel like far more people will just straight up leave the game
I mean, second awakening, maybe around level 200. You’re supposed to have a decent build by then. Rare spells and such.
And then you learn that there are magics even more powerful than base magics. But nuh-uh, you made an uninformed choice at the start of the game! And I feel like a lot more people will be like “What is this shit design, why do I need to spend 30 hours in the most treacherous region of the game” and not “Oh golly gee I get to explore islands to reset my first magics!”
ESPECIALLY since he can’t muster enough creativity to give mutations to anything other than fire, lightning and, apparently, light. Even though he could create 380 magics simply by combining existing ones, a concept not foreign to Vetex, considering poison lightning exists.

are we still going on with this nonexistent point

I really don’t think people are just gonna up and quit if the mutation they want isn’t obtained from their magic
The scroll concept you want back isn’t much better either, since you’re gonna have to grind your ass off for a scroll, and it might not even be the specific one you want.
You could argue that you could trade for it but not only is the AO economy riddled with greedy pigs, but you could do the same thing to get a mutation with a Hecate shard
Second of all, not everyone has a dead-set end goal from the start of the game, most casual players just roll with what they get. Not everyone is gonna go “oh shit, this magic isn’t viable in the meta!” when they get something like sound or diamond and suddenly want to change it, and anyone who really wants to plan that ahead would probably know the path they’d have to take to reach their goal.
But in the end, the Lost and Ancient magics we know of right now probably aren’t all of them, and we’re just bickering about a feature years away from release that we hardly know anything about. All we can really do is hope that they don’t fuck it up by giving fire and lightning a morbillion mutations and less popular magics like acid, crystal, and sand close to none
Although, this complaint could be remedied extremely easily by upping the Hecate essence rates lmfao (even though Vetex, much to the community’s dismay, will never do that)
