Arcane Odyssey fan-made Mutation Chart

They made the point that it wouldn’t be a scroll for a specific magic, it would just be a scroll, and then you could choose any lost/ancient magic. It makes no sense lore wise, plus imo feels a lot less cool to just get any magic from a single scroll. I do agree that their point wasn’t articulated well

So… just a slightly less limited version of what we have currently?
It doesn’t make that much sense, either, since you’re not mutating fire into blizzard, or whatever.

Good lord, you go on about reading comprehension then you fail to read a point I made about this exact same point in a different thread:

And as for your point about people quitting? No they won’t.
For example, the sunk cost fallacy
Also like someone else has said, the average casual player(which nobody on this forum qualifies as) will just go with whatever they like and roll with the punches, like I said in the reminders for AO thread too:

Frankly tho, people like you are the reason why vetex isn’t too keen on sharing future plans for stuff that isn’t related to story. If you really want to leave the game because of a decision the dev made, that’s entirely your choice, and the community may be better because of it.

Well their point is that you wouldn’t be mutating, you’d just be learning whatever lost magic you want after you find the scroll, regardless of your base magics

I get that’s possible, but there’s an issue I have with that:
Every new magic learned gets harder to learn, so if, for example, a mage, were to learn 3 new magics over their fire, water, and lightning to get access to stuff like gravity, aether, and darkness, they’d have to put a shitton of effort in
If the lore implies you can just learn new magics to get whatever mutation you please, it also implies you have to put in the increasing amount of effort to do it each time.

AO support style gameplay???

by the time we get to mutations, we’ll already have better gear and boats to where getting to I3 and finding an essence becomes even easier than it is (seriously, the only hard part is having atlanteans be a near-death-sentence).

oil magic as a concept is even funnier to me than mud tbh

I would personally add slash, sound, and shatter to glass.

Edit: nvm, I read about slash and shatter. My proposal for sound still remains though, because the sound of glass shattering is loud as fuck. Both ingame and irl.

isn’t glass outright just shatter lol?

Because i honestly have no idea what Neutron is, all we know is a name.

My logic - lightning has mutations based around either just lightning or energy. Wave is a blue (similar to lightning) energy (lightning mutations) that steals energy.

No mentions anywhere, so nu huh

Kind-of a stretch ngl
Its like if we had paper magic, to give it blood magic just cause of a bleed.

Shatter yourself vs shatter the world

no YOU should shatter yourself, thank you very much

Okay. I see what you mean. So, Wind could turn into sound, because wind can just be loud on its own? So does that mean we would decide mutations based on innate characteristics rather than something that can come from it through a reaction? I am sorry if it sounds word-salad-y, i don’t know how to put it in other words.

oil curse incident… vary scaryie…

Please read the “universal scroll” bit, and, just in case your reading comprehension is below average, allow me to explain that there will be one scroll that will let you pick any magic, instead of there being multiple scrolls locked to a specific magic.

I guess I didn’t make it clear enough, but the way I see it, you’ll be overwriting your base magics, OR, you’ll have 3 extra slots, 2 for lost, 1 for ancient. Once you fill them up, in either case, you can only overwrite, so it keeps you at three magics.
Which should be perfectly fine, it doesn’t have to be canon to the lore. Neither is Prometheus’s Acrimony, an item that lets you change your second, and probably third, magic.
