Arcane Odyssey is truly World of Magic™

What funny is Nilah was presented as wise leader but at this point I feel like she is the one writing the plot for this chapter.

“Ms. Nilah— that guy got the Death Curse; that girl is a powerful mage who has a lost magic; and despite that, they seeminlgy follow this random ass dude who is good at a wide array of combat styles… It might be dangerous to send them anywhere, we’re so low on supplies that one of them could definetly take a large chunk of our army or loot in a single sabotage!”

“2% Fleet Strength bro, our Army needs this, stop hiding your laugh.”

Like honestly, I’m pretty surprised there is not much talk about the death curse user and a lost magic user… following some Lightning magic bum.

If we really were here for sabotage (and our team weren’t a bunch of gifted toddlers), one of us alone could execute a Fort Talos on all of Sameria so damn fast.

“Morden its me— CHAOS. Blow up the island and all of Sameria’s soldiers lmao, i’ll give 1000 more HP for it dude! They won’t know, just say you accidentally used Self-Explosion with a size build!”

Please, nation of Sameria, I need this!
My polite mercenaries are kinda homeless…

is the protagonist ever really presented as a group leader? I feel like we all just have a common interest, besides Morden who needs some people to gang around with or else he’ll be assassinated. It doesn’t seem like a leader-follower relationship.

I mean, Iris seems to mostly be following us, its mostly that we share the same goal and we’re her only allies? as for Morden… he’s is also doing a bit of the same, albiet trying not to drag everybody into the doom of his Curse.

In all fairness, to everybody else, they’re on our boat, so that would probably be the inference. That and we seemingly speak the most out of the cast whenever a dialogue chain occurs.

It’s mostly like “Morden is the strongest, but they listen to guy #2 or something”.

There haven’t been any team interactions where someone, say, had to do what they’re told even if they don’t feel like it, everyone here is just ganging around as long as it takes, and Neviro even got to just leave. So no, I don’t think Morden is listening to anyone, I think he just doesn’t disagree.

Morden is like a live WMD, bro’s going through it with his Death Magic, we’re basically his handler :sob:

I mean, playing devil’s advocate, we have a relic canonically, which makes us an oracle, which are probably rarer than lost magic users since we’ve seen 1 oracle canonically (besides the player) and like a dozen lost magic users

On that note— how are you supposed to know what item is and isn’t a Relic without:

a. seeing it in use as a Relic, or by being able to use it as a Relic.

b. have some ability to sense Spirit energy.

And both of these require you to know what Relics are, and not just be convinced that its some funky Ancient magic. And to make this even worse, problem a can’t always work because 2 of our Relics just look like accessories and work whilst being worn. You’d basically have to announce yourself as an Oracle for you being a Spirit user to be special… assuming your listener also recognizes what Spirit Energy is given how unknown it is in universe.

Well anyone can use a spirit relic, as proven by Laelus, so being able to use them isn’t what makes someone an Oracle, it’s whether or not they do, which is completely up to the player.
You aren’t a warrior just cause you start with a knife, but you are a mage just cause you start with magic.

In the case of the player, “Despite having lost the memory of your past, you remember this heirloom as if it were a part of yourself.”
In the case of Laelus, him being able to detect the tidestone band’s importance doesn’t mean he’s a legacy, nor was he predisposed to be an oracle, but he also wouldn’t have sensing, since he’s a low-level common thief.

I’ll bet you that you can tell if something is a relic by using it. Eagle Patrimony might be hard to figure out thanks to its shape, but the relics used by NPCs are very obvious, magic staves, crystal orbs, and a bright blue armband that any sensible thief would try on and figure out that it’s magical.

There was this thing called survival bias. In our case, we just happen to be magic guy who meet magic people.

Kinda like how Conqueror Haki in One Piece is like 1 in 1 million or something but we saw like ten of them already.

Its not that they are not rare, its simply because our experience literally involve those rare people.

So you’re telling me the wielder of the Sun Curse isn’t very bright?

I bet he stole it as a funny-looking accessory without knowing its powers, then wore it bc it looked cool, then accidentally casted some rites the next time he was robbing someone, and therefore found out what does the band actually do

Let’s be honest I doubt Nilah is smart.

Heck, I doubt any of the NPCs are smart.

She’s hot though.

IF I conquer entire bosses all by myself while you’re styling on level 41 goons. (Morden got Julian one time and that bitch didn’t even die) IF I defeat 3 of the mayor leaders a cult that we found, all alone. IF I am the richest man in the gang. YOU don’t get the right to say “Hey who’s our leader??” nor do you have the right to say“We’re just working together!”

To be fair! We immediately gave up that authority the moment we accepted Morden to be stronger than us, because by that point we would just be lucky that Morden didn’t just overtake our ship if he didn’t like us being the leader.

Randal?

And King Calvus was presented as a very kind and fair king before we fought him, so maybe something similar is going on here? Like these rulers are described as these great and wise people but in reality they couldn’t be further from their stories?
