the situation of ships in this game is really bad their size especially, the way vetex builds ships i can imagine the frigate coming out the size of a 2nd rate
this is not a suggestion, rather me complaining
the brig is the size of a 5th rate, when brigs in reality are medium sized and carry between 10-18 guns and no siege weapons, on average, a brig would have an fully exposed gun deck if its a military one, a large brig or a civilian one would have a captain’s quarter, and a snow brig would have a semi enclosed gun deck
(the HMS Ontario is a different story)
the ketch, its also too big, Merchant ketches were very small, and bomb ketches would be the ones carrying a siege weapon (anyway they carry between 4-8 guns so thats correct)
rams are VERY ancient but whatever, they make the gameplay easier
the wind doesnt exist, or atleast if it does it basically has almost zero effect on the ship’s speed
the flag flies headwind (you should go backwards, since sailships are propelled by the wind, they align with its direction)
the caravel in AO is too big, and caravels were known for being really small ships, and the AO Caravel’s hull looks more like a bomb ketch than an actual caravel
the sailboat is not classified correctly, its a cutter, but at the same time its too big to be one and isn’t armed enough
The way cannons work is so wrong, flies straight like a missile then drops like a rock, trajectory looks so ahh
Masts dont turn??? (They should)
While sailing in AO, the ship’s hull slightly inclines side to side, left and right, when in reality, sailing crosswind should incline your ship only towards the direction the wind is heading, for example if the wind was heading east and you are sailing north, your ship would sail inclined to it’s starboard side (right side), this has a much stronger effect on ships with lateen, gaff or junk sails which usually makes them go faster in a crosswind
literally go play tradelands for like 10 minutes, or if u want a more realistic and detailed experience, try Windward (its on roblox)
Also if vetex was ever thinking of adding a ship of the line it would be the size of rubica
the game’s ships are based on assassins creed, where brigs do in fact have siege weapons, or at least the jackdaw does
ao islands are sized down from what they actually would be, you can’t take the size of a ship at face value when ravenna is like a tenth of its actual size
you go noticeably faster when going in the direction of the wind
another assassins creed thing, the jackdaw can be equipped with one (not sure abt in other games)
It’s not too often that fantasy games care about historical accuracy, i’d expect it much less from a roblox game at that
Besides it’s an alternate universe so it can be easily explained away as the historical context surrounding the ships and their classifications being different than irl
This can easily be explained by the fact it’s the War Seas. Ships serve different purposes and need to be heavily armed. I think that explains away most of the issues. Ravvy also had a good point about islands not being to scale, and thus our ships aren’t actually that big relative to the islands.
L takes. I ultimately agree that the problems don’t matter and the ships are fine as they are, but there’s no sense in shutting down the discussion entirely. I personally found it very interesting and educational and I’m glad this post was made even though I disagree that the issues it presents are issues.
Crapping on someone who just wants to passionately ramble about something they’ve studied is not only unnecessary, but rude and hostile. And “it’s a roblox game so don’t expect anything more” feels like hopeless doomerism. Let’s have freer discussions.
i wholeheartedly agree with this post, if vetex is going to take the historical names of the ships he may as well make them historically accurate too. besides it makes the power creep of the ships less awful anyways.
