I have never been satisfied with a Roblox game’s melee combat before. Even Black Magic 2, with all its fancy UIs and systems, suffers from a few major problems that ruin the game for me. However, Arcane Odyssey has the potential for melee combat I actually want to play.
To explain why, I’m going to break down a bunch of common issues with melee combat and explain how AO is dealing with them.
It’s hard to judge the distance between two points, so it’s annoyingly hard to consistently tell whether an attack will hit its target. This issue is present in every single Roblox game with melee combat I can think of.
In AO, the character steps forward when they attack. This combined with generous hitboxes will reduce this effect.
Shift lock is really janky. I really don’t like how it feels to turn it off and on.
This one was already fixed in WOM.
Attacks have no impact.
The hitstun that has been added to attacks should give them a bit of juice.
This one is more an issue with WOM than Roblox fighting games as a whole, but weapon clashing was just annoying.
AYY, IT GOT REMOVED!
If AO’s combat isn’t as good as I’m hoping, I will kill Morden.
In front of everyone.
And I don’t give a damn.
Morden is going bye bye.
rogue’s base melee combat is actually pretty good (not the skills obviously)
super simple, easy to learn and several different playstyles depending on weapon
I’m very picky about certain things that most players don’t care about, probably including you. I’m not expecting some advanced Black Magic shit, only something I want to play.
