Probably more of a focus on the Dark Sea and how the factions interact with it, the effects of magic pollution would instead be caused by the overuse of magic by the general populace instead of just one guy throwing nukes. No ideas on what the lore for the dark sea could be.

I could also see permadeath only happening in the Dark Sea as it would essentially be a voidzone, people are “lost to the Dark Sea” and never return.

I do wonder how gods would be though, maybe they’ll still alive but forced into hiding in their own sections of the dark sea and have control over those areas? Kinda like how each layer has a drowned god watching over it
