Are AO'S bad game design features actually defendable

Can we realistically defend terrible features such as notoriety, water poisoning, dirt accumulation and tanning, armor breaking and fall damage? Is there an actual good reason for them to be present and not that vetex wanted to make ao more immersive to an extent, like did he ACTUALLY think through before adding those features to his game???

Like what’s the point of water poisoning if not to artificially increase the dark sea’s difficulty?? it has 0 warning, can begin at any moment with a 5 minutes cooldown and I don’t think it’s stated anywhere in game that you can clear it with soap so fuck new players

what’s the point of fall damage too, like does anyone even like this feature and what made vetex add this shit??

Dirt accumulation has no such justifications however… that shit genuinely sucks

clearly everyone plays a magic rpg because they want it to be realistic. that’s why we need dirt accumulation and fall damage. also instead of giving stuff from the lore proper game design we need to port it one to one so that it’s immersive and that’s why water poisoning can just randomly trigger

Although notoriety can be annoying it feels a bit good to see things you do have effect so it might get nerfed a bit but can stay others can go for sure though

I agree that these kinda suck to different degrees, but I think this is just stuff we’ve gotta accept because this is Vetex’s game
I know that’s a lame answer, but I know that, as much as we want to make the game better in plenty of fields, there’s still some quirks that’ll remain because of Vetex’s… unusual sense of game design

Point is, in my opinion these relatively minor things we can let him have, while we argue for more important things, such as the (insufficient) fleet nerf

notoriety would be interesting if, instead of we getting more and more ships the more notoriety we have, we’d get some rear admiral bosses like amelia

notoriety should be reworked to be like cyberpunks notoriety where reaching 5 stars just sends the actual grim reaper

the second you reach full notoriety they outright send the king admiral

wdym bro? ao got so much better when vetex made it so rats can randomly run out of chests but otherwise arent seen anywhere else and have no use other than running across your screen, it may be the best feature in the game
