This is a genuine question, are they even worth it? Tell me, what is the point of writing all of that if no one is looking at it?
The most popular suggestion had gotten 170 votes and only half of it was added anyways (unless someone can show me more).
If literally only one suggestion (that I at least know of) has been added probably excluding any max accepting phases, then what’s the point now? Shouldn’t there be like system to stop people from making suggestions until a random accepting phase occurs because no important person (As in mods, testers, or vetex) looks at them?
I’m just kind of disappointed rn as there are so many unique and game benefiting suggestions others make that will never be seen or considered.
the answer is no
nope! the only way to get a suggestion through are if a tester bumps it, through patreon, or if all of the forums collectively agrees it’s a good enough idea for one of the former two to happen. you’re essentially just teaching yourself game design for free
I’m getting my rock collection back, so I’m 1 for 3 so far.
I think reading and making suggestions can be fun, even if they won’t make it into the game.
ngl, I think suggestions would be taken more seriously if they were actually major stuff and not small things like “add more slots for this and that” that would be added naturally over time. Not to mention that half of the suggestions are anime stuff that clearly don’t fit the game and COUGH SYRUP FIGHTING STYLE [PART 3] [REWORKED] (I hate fighting style suggestions)
What do you mean, accepting?
I actually made the mage weapon thing, It was just a thing for mages that would give them a cool versatile feature that places different spells on one weapon. I meant major things like, who knows, my new renown system idea? Its like a bunch of stuff for ways to obtain it and a bunch of PvE stuff that a lot of people seem to like, so I just didn’t like my suggestion going to waste.
bad choice of words
i mean yeah neat thing you’re putting your ideas into paper but I don’t think (at least I don’t) anyone is looking at them rn, or they have no place in the game in some developer’s eyes
kind of crazy how much effort is put into some of them but most of the time no developer gives them direct acknowledgment, at least that I know of
Of the suggestions I’ve made, the one that got accepted wasn’t even a suggestion (it was literally a comment about how invisible barriers should be removed for guilds as a compromise)
nah i got what i wanted in the end (npc inaccuracy, npcs not blocking mid-attack)
ig vetex checks suggestions but doesnt bother to reply (excepts if its ragebait)
now im wondering, did vetex reply to someone else in the forum who didnt ragebait him?
I 'unno.
Even if you have a good idea, it justifiably won’t go through if it doesn’t align with the developer’s creative vision–and if it does, there’s a chance they were already planning that anyway–so I’d imagine most of what’s actually accepted is quality-of-life stuff like the one you mentioned.
imo it is NOT worth it, but i mostly write it for fun because i’m kind of a starting writer, or to get flamed by someone… (Inertia: Fixing the sailing flashbacks)
id say the opposite, i believe big features/revamps have practically no chance while small quality of life changes that nobody really thought about might be added quickly
imo suggestions in this forum are moreso to have fun with the community by discussing what might or might not make the game better rather than actually expecting any suggestion to make it in, as vetex has his own vision of the game which he rarely derails from.
it’s extremely rare any of them will be genuinely considered unless the idea was already planned beforehand in secret, especially now that we’re well into AO with a bunch of testers suggesting privately rather than early World of Magic where everything was experimental.
in my opinion, most suggestions have at least one of these ““flaws”” that don’t help them make it into the game. (flaw is very loose, and that’s just my view on it. these are not necessarily the writer’s fault at all.)
- overambitious. the suggestion is a huge feature or revamp. realistically has no chance to make it in unless vetex was already thrilled with the idea beforehand to bother investing the development time, which at this point is just a coincidence that the feature was already planned.
- not a new idea. it’s very common for suggestions to be either old ideas or not ideas at all, just either a rant or someone asking for an already planned feature to come out early. suggestions should be bringing new ideas to the table that are interesting/realistic enough to influence ghe game’s development, not just a personal bias thing where you complain that the game isn’t how you want it to be. as good or bad as it is, it’s vetex’s game at the end of the day.
- conflicts with vetex’s vision/lore/whatever. it’s a hard one to circumvent as we don’t really know what vetex wants and sometimes the game’s universe is purposefully kept vague and mysterious to the community. it’s what imo makes most suggested additions to, say, the dark sea, have little chance to make it in as they might unknowingly conflict with vetex’s lore of how the world works and what makes sense. i’d say this also applies to pretty much any suggestion for a new boss/named npc/side story content.
- could have written more broad categories but i realize i’m rambling and lost interest
TLDR: im rambling as if i had any autority over suggestions
so… suggestions are more like… try to guess a hidden patch that vetex has already planned?, that means is gambling?!!
Its basically the only official channel for community added features. Will vetex see it? Probably not. Is the suggestions even good? Debatable unless its the greatest idea. If you think about it, suggestions are basically vetex’s secondary idea board that will most likely not be even considered
