The Problem

The ranges are quite simply too big.
At the current time, getting a brig to the far reaches takes a solid 20 minutes with a high quality speed loadout.
Maybe a bit less if you start minmaxing and throwing out your weapons.

Unless ships are planned to get utterly ridiculous in terms of speed, there’s no way far reaches content will ever make sense, especially if it involves any form of sealed chest.

The Solution:

The ranges need to be smaller, that’s the short of it.
There is absolutely no reason for the travel times to take this long.

Additionally, reducing the size of the dark seas would help with the very very prevalent floating point errors that you can clearly see if you’ve ever been that far.
The map should not be big enough that floating point errors are an actual thing players need to worry about.

Maybe if in the future roblox somehow extends the range before this becomes an issue or we get much much faster ships (I am talking like 3x the speed of a current minmaxxed speed brig) THEN this scale would be feasible in gameplay, but right now it simply isn’t.

For reference, during the entire time I was writing this and editing it, I’ve been sailing into the dark seas in the background trying to get to the far reaches.
I only just reached range 3, my brig has 119 speed.

urr actually, we’re not supposed to be in the Far Reaches at this point in the game

make brig fast again.

yes we are.
there’s content there now.

hope you don’t mean the omen

There’s the omen, there’s moly, there’s the animals, there’s divine foods and potions, there’s hecate essence.
The list is only gonna keep growing.

I get what you mean. However, I think in the future when we get more ships it will balance out

unless we’re talking ships with like 400 speed, it really won’t.

no we need more suffering, make the dark seas twice as big.

Thoughts on instancing the dark seas itself Mister Existence

I feel like the Dark Sea is supposed to be massive to begin with, lore-wise (I could be wrong). It wouldn’t make that much sense to venture into a place that is supposedly covers a gargantuan amount of area and reach the end in only a short while; It also wouldn’t make sense because the things found in the Dark Sea are very rare, powerful, and hard to get. (I think). It wouldn’t make sense lore-wise for a bunch of those things to exist and be owned by a bunch of people.

this is all well and true but I am much much more concerned about the gameplay than the lore.
can you imagine how ridiculous far reaches sealed chests would and probably will be if it remains this obnoxiously big?

the bugs that get invited by having it this oversized to the point of floating point errors occurring everywhere.

think its been said we won’t get a ship faster than the brig

but we will get better ship parts that give better stats, think one of the sail parts exclusive to the ships you can recruit currently can have a higher base speed than current sails

iirc vetex said future ships would have same or less base speed than the brig

Also I feel like a better solution would be maybe to have like paths that increase speed via currents/wind, that islands don’t spawn on :man_shrugging: (I think there might have been a suggestion like this a while ago I forgor)

I fail to see why the issue cannot be solved by just making it smaller instead of doing all this roundabout nonsense.

there is literally zero reason for the map to be so big we’re experiencing floating point errors.
I will not stop bringing this up.

Do you have like, terrible ship resilience or smth :sob:
My ~130 speed brig can get to the far reaches in ~30-35 minutes

you are aware that 20 is less than 30 right..?
also 35 minutes of sailing in a direction is ridiculous why are you trying to defend this.

Oh I read it as you saying 20 minutes each range mb

I agree with you on the idea but tbh I think the Dark Sea as a whole needs a major overhaul to make it actually an enjoyable challenge rather than a boring, tedious and annoying slog (or at least that’s how it comes off to me). Making the ranges smaller would be a band-aid fix for a much deeper problem.

Why is this so lowly-rated lmao the community can’t cook good feedback

There’s the general opinion that the Dark Seas is boring and should be improved. Making the ranges smaller isn’t definitely the best way to do it but it’s a start. Besides, fuck features purposely designed to drag on and pad out playtime.
