I have absolutely no idea why people are justifying sailing for 20+ minutes to reach a location.
Do they enjoy waiting for a third of an hour to actually play the game?

Neither Vetex nor his players can make good game design

good thing I don’t play AO, my ideas are great.

Vetex already stated that the brig is the fastest ship :pensive:

However, we’ll have faster items to use (sailcloths & hulls)

and that’s good, we shouldn’t need ships that are faster than the brig.
That’s what this suggestion is for, to cut out the need for faster ships approaching like 300 or 400 speed.

Yea, i was just clarifying for anyone who didn’t know.

Even so, it really depends on the future, like you said, cuz having 300 to 400 speed would be detrimental for the dark sea if it were to be shortened, but we still have the issue of the floating point. so idk really

Base speed brig will take ~47 minutes to get past a dark sea range :skull:

Did this get review bombed or something

Nah most likely

It did
Its like I said a while back.
If you take a direct approach at anything, people throw a shitfit.
Doesn’t matter how much it makes sense because you’re directly altering something instead of finding a way around the issue, no matter how unnecessary the issue is to have in the first place.

Frankly one of my least favorite parts of this community.
You have to dance around everything instead of just addressing the actual issues or people freak out for no reason.

hell yeah

Yeah it’s ridiculous how adverse this community is to direct change

I kind of disagree with this. I see why but I don’t agree.

Instead of making Dark Sea Smaller, how about enhance the reward. Let Fleet only have I1 reward and starting I2 its real game. Make fishes and gear These days I do Dark Sea purely for fun. I want to challenge myself, but beside that, there is practically zero reason for me to go Dark Sea exploration, as I can just afk and make lot of money, prolly fishing for luck brew/essence.

Make fishes and resources better there. Maybe I2 give 2 tree sap when destroyed, and I4 give 4. Metal scrap tree give 3 in I1 and 5 in I2. Something like that. This will incentivize you to go further and challenge yourself. Right now there is no reason to go further in if you dont look to minmax or anything.

Really hope they make it smaller so i won’t need to deal with the floating point errors by the time i do get forced to head to the deeper areas for stuff

You would have a point here if it wasn’t for a couple issues.
Firstly: The map is just objectively too big. We’re getting floating point errors because the map is too big for roblox’s systems to handle properly. Sure, the floating point errors aren’t that bad, but we shouldn’t be seeing them at all.

Secondly: Can you imagine how absolutely ridiculous far reaches sealed chests would be?
You sail for 30 minutes to get into the far reaches, spend an hour or two hopping islands to gather some sealed chests, and then have to spend ANOTHER 30 minutes sailing back.
That’s a whole hour of waiting for ONE successful run.

I am standing on real ground here. All my suggestion is either QoL or Lore-based. I see how Vetex did his work. His work usually follow this order:

  1. Lore
  2. Mechanic
  3. QoL

If the mechanic gonna predate the lore, it wont happen, except Vetex suddenly decided “Yeah maybe I am too harsh on them”. If he felt like QoL gonna change the mechanic, it won’t happen. Just look at how long till he added PVP Toggle. Some suggest Fast Travel need to exist and I agree. Make it expensive, have long cooldown or whatever, but I myself believe it won’t happen cuz then people gonna ask more; lower pay/cooldown/whatever and im pretty sure Vetex don’t want whatever addition he add to the sea get gutted by people fast travelling to avoid harsh condition at the sea.

Still, I think you don’t need to make it smaller. Maybe you can make it smaller but not as much as you said. Dark Sea suppose to be place where people go crazy from it and lost for months, before either go mad or die. I’m not mad dark sea took a long time, I had fun because I like challenges (and for me it kinda reasonable). I’m just mad cuz I die to fricking heart attack, flinging to the sky and water poisoning not appearing on my screen.

Floating point errors being a consistent problem in the farther areas:

Do you not understand what a floating point error is?
In short: The roblox game engine can only handle maps of a certain size before stuff starts to break down.

There is no official size limit for how big a game map can be, but things start to get noticeably affected around the area where the far reaches start.
You’ve probably noticed it, given you said you frequent it like I do.
Textures bugging out, the physics being a bit wonky, sensing suddenly failing to work properly, things just generally being a bit off.

That’s not a game mechanic, that’s the game engine struggling to handle the excessively oversized map.

This is not an opinion.
Objectively it is too big.
There is no room for discussion, it is a fact.

How much shorter we talking here
