Yeah that will also solve the issue I had where some level 62 person kept attempting to attack my ship. This wasn’t an issue until they boarded and actually started attacking me, leading to them dying
Ain’t like a freshly-minted level 50 should be having to tackle some awakened demifiend anywho. Even beyond being minmaxed to the heavens, just having passive regen over some story char in progress is a big ol’ advantage by itself.
This exactly, it’s not just about attack power, a higher level player will just have way more staying power in a matchup, even as close as level 125 (post-awakening) and level 120, especially due to the faster energy recharge post-awakening.
passive*
but yeah post-awakening grants a huge buff
You knew what I meant though (no you’re right I was unintentionally confusing)
the adhd brain trying to decide what is clear and what isn’t (pained screaming)
i get that COMPLETELY yeah
Perhaps getting killed by an npc organisation member would lower clan infamy? It would mean pve players still have risk/reward when attacking AS or GN ships since while they may get infamy from sealed chests, theyll lose some if they die to them.
I mean I would think just generally failing at certain things could drain infamy, but at the same time you want to make sure the pve clans fit the bill as more ‘leniant non-tryhard’ things. Add too many fail conditions and people would find them unfun- its the reason no one claims islands that much anymore. If you arent there to defend them, then you are in some deep trouble.
Thats why I think dying to GN/AS members and that draining infamy, rather than just pirates in general draining infamy could be good, since the main way youd get infamy for your clan as a pve player is by sinking ships for sealed chests. (Yes you can do charts but this is slower, but would have a lot less risk i suppose)
This is literally part of the fun! AO wouldn’t work with voluntary PVP, it’s just too early in its development.
i seriously think i might be on to something here though
The problem is. That’s part of your fun. Not mine. I despise that. That crap makes me not want to play the game. That is the antithesis to everything I have ever or could ever consider ‘fun’, and I’m not alone in that.
Do not fall for the ill-conceived notion that your idea of fun is the same as everyone elses. There are people who- all they do in this game is fish. They don’t boss farm, they don’t max their build, they don’t even really care for the story. They just. Fish. That’s it. I’ve met some of them. They love this one activity, it’s all they want to do. “Part of the Fun” for them is not, a random person showing up to slaughter them whilst they are fishing forcing them to sail all the way back out.
PVE players enjoy more predictable, repeatable activities they can overcome through mastery of mechanical skill or knowledge. They don’t want this random unpredictable nonsense of players coming to kill them and ruin what they are doing.
Nah, sorry, I don’t believe fun is that subjective. Humans aren’t built for solitude or dullness. comfortability always sooner or later leads to something more anarchic, liberal, or progressive. Can’t say anything more, without getting political, so I’ll stop there. They fish not for the sake of fishing, it’s for items or relieving stress or something more abstract idk, and the task of fishing is completely different from farming cargo. Also, I wasn’t completely against the idea, just said it’s too early in its development. What is life without a bit of risk
HOLY SHIT
SUDDEN PIP ENCOUNTER
Fun.
Again, you kinda misunderstand at the core that fun IS subjective. It is. It just straight is. This isn’t a debate, this is a fact. Not everyone watches every type of movie. Some people don’t watch movies. Some people don’t like games at all. My brother is more into tabletop board games- but thinks like 40k, but he stopped finding that fun and moved on-.
Fun is nuanced. Its not this, simpleminded ape-brain thing thats programmed in. The desire for fun is psychologically new to humans. You can find examples of something happening in AO that you wouldn’t mind happening to you, pissing someone off to the point they quit the game entirely and write lengthy youtube videos about how garbage the entire thing is.
This is why there are courses in entertainment and design. Psychological studies of things like flow state and all the interesting jazz! Fun is Fun! It’s not easy to describe but every persons fun is different, conditioned into them by what they do or don’t enjoy over the years, waxing and waning as their interests change or dwindle. I used to hate pvp so much I thought anyone who partook in it should [REDACTED].
Now I enjoy PVP in a casual sense, I find it fun. If you asked me in the past if I did, I would tell you hard no, and if you tried to sell me that ‘fun isn’t super subjective you just gotta learn to love it’. I woulda waved you off as a loony, because that’s simply silly.
It kind of is, m8. That’s why there’s different genres of things. Some people enjoy things more than others.
this is probably the craziest take to spawn from this whole thread
joining the dogpile, what a galaxy brained take
“i’m not just unable to understand why someone might enjoy different things to me, I don’t even believe that they can”
legendary
A few days ago some random killed a new file I was leveling because my trade “offended him” (uppercut + exotic gems for selino) and I was so baffled because bro went out of his way to grab an assassination contract for me while we were both <15k fame like???
Separate issue though, I think bro wanted to powertrip
