Nobody will ever let you live this down.
Never said it was objective , just that there are some criterias that are supposed to be met for individuals to literally experience “fun”
hehehhe
I play this game to relieve stress and experience the world Vetex has created, and involuntary PvP often negates hours upon hours of said stress relief
How is this true whatsoever? Does the game simply not function below the PvP level? Do servers immediately cease to function once PvPheads leave?
What individuals require to experience “fun” will vary. Yes, there are some general bars of entry, but to act as if everyone will be entertained by the same means is simply untrue. By that reasoning, if a dress-up barbie game successfully entertains most 8-year old girls who play it, it should also be entertaining to you just the same. Or if a college professor finds a 3-hour long history documentary fascinating, you too should be expected to be entertained by the film in its entirety. These are somewhat absurd examples, but nevertheless display that your reasoning just isn’t true.
Also, as a personal word of warning: while I myself am about dead center in the political spectrum, this forum as a whole is left-leaning. It isn’t a good idea to speak as if liberal and progressive ideologies as a whole are bad here, as you will find very limited agreement.
But…you just did? Granted that it’s “objective” and not “subjective”, the points about someone’s tastes varying per person still stands.
since when do we give a shit about politics?
why’d you even bring that up???
Ah yes, I play Arcane Odyssey for intricate discussions about political happenings.
(This is off topic, let’s veer back on track)
pip did bring it up first but yeah knock it off the two of you
sanest take from a pvphead:
I don’t pvp, and I rarely play the game
fair enough
Apologies, you’re right. Just thought I’d give a word of warning. Anyways, what we’re we talking about now? Ah yes, how the act of random violence is detrimental to a healthy community and society.
This thread is about making a game fun, not Hobbes’ social contract. Participate with the topic or don’t participate.
Anyway, the solution does seem to be restricting the concept of free PvP in some way. Probably a good way is to have tiers of level caps, so starting at level 50 you’d be able to fight players up to level 70 at random. For situations this does not cover (and to replace the lack of a system to organize fights) there could be a duel system, similar to trading as in players could opt out if they don’t feel like constantly getting duel requests. Maybe there could even be the ability to set up larger-scale fights, such that other players don’t get in the way of, say, clan conflicts, once/if the clan system gets more fleshed out and there’s more on the line.
I still prefer my solution since it would almost completely annihilate unfair fights atleast those depending on level.
Only being able to attack players at or above your level with only a handful of exceptions.
IE: Duels, lower level taking the higher level’s contract, ect.
That is theoretically better, but I doubt that it would be implemented with the mentality of development at this time
Maybe a level range, I.e people can only attack players ± (aaah plus/minus sign on keyboard where) a certain level around theirs
e: it somehow converted to ±
ehhh that would ruin the immersion
the more limits you put on a game = the less freedom you have to do what you want (which is vital in a mmorpg!)
have you truly played ao if you didn’t get one shot as soon as you met the pvp requirement?
gameplay >>>>> immersion any day.
the only freedom this restricts is people jumping people far weaker than them.
I’m pretty sure it’s an intended GAMEPLAY feature to be able to fight people who are different levels, otherwise it wouldn’t be added…
basically what you’re suggesting is that if someone is way stronger than you they shouldn’t be able to fight you, because clearly it’s unfair. then what about the min-maxed level 125s who grind the dark seas for a living… would they not easily destroy someone who just got to max lvl? your change is suggesting that you can only fight those who are the same or higher level than you to prevent the power difference between someone who’s max and someone who’s underlevelled, but couldn’t the same be said for someone who’s min-maxed and someone who’s undergeared? should we make a new requirement that if you want to fight someone with a 200 power build you have to have the same or higher damage? it’s clearly unfair, so why is it allowed? gameplay over immersion right???
