Da new hunger & energy mechanic (well, a revamp)

Alright let me spell this out to you in a super straight forward way since clearly you’re too busy throwing personal insults at me to grasp what I’m saying.

Hunger beyond 100 = Full
Full = can’t eat more

Large meals ignore this if you start eating one before being full.
Large meals would be utterly useless if they didn’t ignore this.
Vetex is not a moron.

The point of large meals isn’t to bypass the hunger cap, its to apply large buffs to a party

still, like crmins_cringle said, there’s a reason why people dont like using sailor style. having to recharge your energy to fight is just silly. note that this is different from the hunger we have now, where you can just eat a few bananas every so often and be fine, and not that annoying to deal with

Its easy to forget since it literally just happened but we can mass produce meals now. (I could make a thousand 100+ hunger meals right now instantly if I wanted to lol)
Having high hunger food has never been less of a problem.

Yea with the current hunger system.
Not with the new system.
Have you not considered the fact that HUNGER AND ENERGY IS BEING REWORKED and thus THINGS ARE CHANGING?

I think it could work but the initial version has some issues I think should probably be addressed.

my current concerns are:

Energy will be a non-issue for new players, and gradually will require better meals at higher levels. The fullness mechanic can also make it more annoying for higher level players as since they have to eat more they’ll run into it more often.
Possible solutions:

  • Consider flat energy costs for moves maybe.
  • Make the requirement for fullness scale with level so higher leveled players can eat more before becoming full.

Saturation can cause some issues. In early game giving someone a high hunger meal could trivialize early bosses with a massive temp HP pool. While in PvP, someone showing up with a meal to give them an extra 1k of HP would probably feel unfair.

Possible solutions:

  • Cap saturation based on level (Not a fan of this but would work.)
  • Allow overfilling energy bar OR make saturation apply to stamina instead of HP.

I seriously doubt this is changing because, I repeat, large meals would be useless!
why would you ever want a large meal!
they have exactly one purpose! to provide a metric ton of hunger/energy!

the system being described here is 1:1 identical to what is currently ingame.
I fail to see why this very deliberate interaction with the current system would change.

well it’s pretty efficient to not need to sort through your inventory every time your buffs expire

also as previously mentioned, though I know on the AO forums this isn’t a feature most people can use, but the purpose is to share the buffs and hunger with your friends, much like with brews

I usually use them to provide food buffs for an extended period of time or to a group of people because every bite provides the full duration of the status effect

frankly the systems are rarely ever used for that purpose.
I’ve only seen it a handful of times since the game released.

once when a bunch of people partied up to jump calvus (I brought a large regen meal)
once when fort castrum released (a friend of mine brought an ironskin 3 brew)

aside from that they’re efficient portable potions to put on my ship and mystery brew rerolls.

rarely used =/= not the actual purpose

the purpose of ironskin was to give you damage resistance, but most people used it as slowness on crack

it’s an immutable fact that the purpose of large meals and brews is to share it with a party

I’ve considered that, but I prefer it not affecting HP at all. Would lead to less issues imo

This is a really Really REALLY GREAT IDEA. Just for the fact that you can place meals while under max heath I am so stupid with my “cooked meals” I just throw in the biggest stuff I find and now I only have a couple of held “meals”. Also why is it a meal when Players go through it like a bag of Welch’s fruit snacks?

stg(oodness) what is with you people and always automatically assuming vetex will make only the worst, most buggy, ineffective, and disastrous features that will always lead to major unforeseen issues. This reaction literally always happens every single time he changes something beyond just adding an island or changing a few numbers.

he has a dev team. he has MANY, NEW TESTERS to find bugs. The major lag issues have been proven twice now to have been Roblox issues that roblox themselves fixed randomly. Vetex isn’t in fact a bad roblox dev with no foresight.

My point is that large meals literally have an interaction baked into them that checks if you start eating them before/after being full to decide if the rest of the meal gives you hunger or not.

No I just don’t think hunger should give max hp and I think its a bad thing.
I never said it was a disaster waiting to happen because of bugs, I said that because I think it’d just be bad for the game overall.
