I understand that, I just feel like renown would become a useless feature, especially later in the game when people have grinded it to insane amounts of renown. New players or players who haven’t really grinded much renown won’t want to even attempt getting any renown. Also, bounty boards won’t have much of a use either rather than getting NPC kills/rivals or getting a little bit of money.

I’m not saying to make a new feature just like deckhands, as I agree that the renown requirements are insane. I’m just saying that we need a new feature that encourages infamy grinding. As for what the new feature would be, I have no clue. Just something that isn’t as demanding as deckhands.

I do agree that renown should be rewarded, just not with pure stat upgrades.

Cosmetics and titles both within and outside of the leaderboard would probably help but I have very few ideas outside of that.

As for bounty boards not having much use, they already don’t have much use, this suggestion adds a use to them.
Right now they’re used to get a rival and grab high rarity treasure charts off of them easily.

I do like the cosmetics and titles idea, that could be a good fix for it. The titles could be similar to clan ranks gained by infamy, like Legendary Clan and stuff like that. That would likely encourage grinding renown.

I do understand your point with bounty boards but I was more speaking on the renown gained rather than the use of rivals, although I do agree that the suggestion would add another use to bounty boards.

truly a great idea, even more if you count the fact that vetex removed the ways to get a lot of fame/bounty. this would make it so not only the lifeless people that never touch grass have deckhands

Well we don’t have to remove renown deckhands, they can coexist with rival deckhands

Yeah that’s true, however the post never clarified that. That would be a nice in-between possibly.

maybe some deckhands you would have to duel before they join u?

Well that is basically what this suggestion is lol.

reminds me of SoW’s nemesis system and warframe’s kuva liches

Finally a way for players to get deckhands that isn’t too pvp heavy

I like this a lot.

Somehow I didn’t even realize the similarities to the nemesis system lol.
Defeating somebody on repeat to make them stronger before you make them your minion.

Yes, more pve, especially the look cool and good stats part.
So assuming it gets implemented, what will happen to our original legendary deckhands

Why would anything happen to them?
If you wanted to you could replace them, I guess.

me on my way to recruit some psychotic and mentally ill serial killers that i mugged so they could give me some paper

the more people describe it, the more it sounds like the nemesis system.

This is brilliant. I always hated how deckhands worked AND wanted a means to get rid of our rivals to switch things up. This solves both problems!

To the multiple post of this kind, asking about renown deckhands.

I see the rival deckhands as another way of getting deckhands for 1 simple reason.
I don’t think you should be showed the stat your rival would get, but the stat could maybe be based on their build (vitality builds would give ram defense and defense, weapon builds would give ram damage and turning, mages would give magic storage and turning, strenght builds would give speed and stability) or something along this.

So if you are looking for a specific stat then renown deckhands would be the way to go.

so… my 2 armor deckhands would have either juggernaut or knight…
aww Hell that’s a lotta HP

So i looked at the wiki to refresh myself on the stats for ships that exists. And there are exactly 8 different stats.

Mages would have:
Magic storage and resilience, they can augment they basic functions of the ship and improve upon its core functions.

Berserkers would have:
Stability and ram damage they are both sturdy and strong. and now how to make the ship perform at 110% effect.

Warriors would have:
Speed and turning they are able to utilize many weapons, and can make the ship both swift and agile.

Wardens would have:
Defense and ram defense they are the sturdy folks, wanting to outlive any opponent, which they make sure the ship can as well.

The hybrid builds and savants therefor would be able to provide all ship stats, based on their stat distribution.

Conjurers would be able to have:
Magic storage and resilience + Speed and turning

For simplicity i would give savants all possible ship stats stats.
