Ok, so I’ve never really used a deckhand, so I don’t know how useful they really are in the grand scheme of things. But maybe I would have a better idea of it’s usefulness as a mechanic if it didn’t require me to basically give up all other aspects of my life to grind renown. Why do they need hundreds of thousands of renown to get? Are they really so good that they need you to be heavily invested in the game first?
Seven million fame for 3 turning speed
One trillion fame for a guy who gives 20 magic storage
I used to grind for them back then thinking they’d help you defend your ship or something. But naww, they just stand there…
Deckhands are mostly for getting around quicker or helping in naval combat. If you decide to get deckhands, go for ones that are at the max level.
10 million fame for 1 defense
Here’s a tip on finding deckhands to hire.
The cheapest deckhand is a lv 20 common, costs 20k rep.
Deckhands usually have more accessories the higher their level, but not necessarily.
At 40k rep you can hire an uncommon (40k minimum).
Since it isn’t too difficult to get the first 100k rep, you should at least be able to hire a couple of deckhands (2 for caravel, 3 for ketch) and then reset your rep if you prefer.
Hunting people’s rivals is a good way to gain rep, though pre-20k it’s not as worth it.
I say go for speed (one is fine) or defense deckhands, maybe a turning or a ram strength if you need either of those.
Don’t bother ranking the deckhands up. Deckhands passively level so realistically you’re going to take forever to catch up.
Not worth the time and effort, that is all you need to know… What I did with my life?
they’re a noticeable bonus but in no way worth hundreds of thousands of renown to get
i would say only grind for them if u have too much time on ur hands
i annihilate entire fort talos and commit mass genocide to the soldiers
i murder a war general
i backstab a literal king with a lost magic
i save a literal inhabited iceberg from melting
i prevent an entire cult from expanding and murder their leader
hell, i even survived and sailed out of the nightmares of akursius keep
i murder literal criminals in shell island
I SPOKE TO A DAMNED GOD
i killed a shark whose size is 100+ times larger than me
i discover the treasure of a great pirate whose never been found before
AND YET, THIS SELF PROCLAIMED ‘strong’ RANDOM GUY IN PALO TOWN DOESNT RECOGNISE ME THE MOMENT I ACCIDENTALLY USE AN ACID BLAST INFRONT OF THEIR FACE
Deckhands are the only incentive for getting to high renown aside from cool titles and name color, but they are really not worth the grind considering you need over a million to unlock their full potential
If only deckhands and renown were separated features
Ah, but you see… None of those are mentioned in the Agora! Next time get a source to back your facts up, buddy!
my source for my 1.2 million fame? i jailed bad boys
simple, the only use for deckhands:
+15 speed
tbh the renown should be replaced with like the amount of things killed
those being
Sea creatures killed
Ships sunk + NPC (Ships) killed
Ship Travel Distance (Total)
Agora count
The NPCS will give stats depending on what you do
Andd when I was reading the wika I saw this
Imagine if you were like level 600 in the future of the game and you need like a shit ton of reputation to even get a deckhand (Unsure if this is a real thing, the math)
All - Durability, Stability, Sail Endurance, Speed (RNG)
Sea creatures killed - Sail Endurance, Ram Strength (Sail endurance most likely), Ram Defense
Ships sunk - Ram Strength, Ram Defense, Magic Storage, Sail Endurance, Turning (Ram strength most likely)
Ship Travel Distance - Resilience, Turning, Speed (Most likely)
Agora Count - All stats (RNG)
This would make getting deckhand easier and don’t have to fear getting hunted down by players’n such. But of course the stats will be high but as long as you’re farming you’ll be good.
Like legendary for deckhand who want to join for the amount of ships you’ve sunk, you need to start with 350 ships sunk.
That makes good sense I suppose. It’d be not only less cumbersome and annoying to get deckhands that way, but it would add in a nice layer of intricacy with the whole system. If you become well known for specific things, people who do those things are more familiar with you than people who do other stuff.
Ah yes, a speed boost which I could acquire much more easily with sail materials! That totally justifies having thousands of renown!
not A speed boost, a speed boost you’d never be able to have without millions of renown. You’d be able to outrun any other ship
Maybe deckhands and your crew should require wages instead of renown, and there’d be a meter that has to be filled like your hunger bar
How exactly would that be a good idea? Sure, if you’re a hero, it isn’t that bad, but but for villains, unless if you’re great at the Navy Endurance Test, having the galleons for the A.S. Sponsors and the Navy would come down to quick boss grinding sessions or searching for chests everywhere, running the risk of a Hero or Villain NPC ruining your day.
