I’d say it should be one tech that should let players do a ton with. Perhaps things such as high jump that maintains the momentum from the dodge, do attacks or block afterwards, etc. Dodges also shouldn’t take up a ton of stamina because yea fuck stamina. Would be nice seeing dodges change pvp up drastically and allow for more movement and options.
At least have dodges consider the camera orientation if possible, since in AA if you did a dodge to the right (aka pressing D twice), your character would turn to face right like usual when pressing a movement key THEN do the dodge to their right… which in the end is a dodge toward the camera.
I don’t even remember if dodging was added to the main AA game in the end but it worked like that in the test universe.
Considering how you commit to most actions you take like casting a spell, blocking, high jumping, etc., I don’t think there will be much if anything to do mid dodge or something similar. I mean it would be weird to become super agile with a ton of options when dodging but have the rest pretty simple.
I feel like we have all the options mid air but none on the ground. We can do attacks right after high jump so I can see utilization in it. There should definitely be something similar but grounded.
I want dodging to be like Elemental Battlegrounds dodging.
Dodging to the side means you literally slide sideways, thus facing the same way.
You should be able to use magic, weapon abilities, and shields while dodging, it should just end the dodge prematurely. Basically the animation would play and you would briefly move forwards a little and then stay at the new position, as if you suddenly put all the brakes on, skidding forwards a bit then stopping.
You should be able to dodge and then press t to do a high jump that not only keeps going at the same/similar speed but goes higher. Basically, the dodge continues, only at an angle.
Dodging should not take too much stamina. You should be able to dodge at least 4 times before running out of stamina.
Dodging then attacking should deal extra damage (with melee weapons).
Dodging then blocking should cause the enemy to be knocked backwards with light damage.
You should be able to do multiple dodges in succession, with no charge-up period like high jumps. Dodges should also be shorter than high jump length. It should not be possible to charge a dodge.
Dodging should be impossible while in the air.
Dodging then jumping (not a high jump) would cause you to move forwards at dodge speed through the air and slightly higher than normal, but the dodge would end earlier than normal as well. Like with the high jump, the dodge continues, just at an angle.
You should be able to use heavy melee attacks while dodging.
Firing long ranged weapons like bows or crossbows should briefly slow you down but not stop you in a dodge. This does not apply to spears and daggers.
That’s about all I can think of.
