In the Trello, the awakenings for mages and fighters are just 2nd/3rd magic and fighting style. this being the only option is really disappointing for me.
This game is an RPG. Idk about anyone else, but personally when I play an RPG I want to be immersed in my character/fit a certain theme. If I wanna be a pyromaniac fire mage then why am I forced to use other magics? And not using it would be as if I didn’t get any awakenings in the first place. I’m not saying the option should be removed for those who want to use multiple but I think there should other options. I have the same issue with weapons as well. Although I know that weapons are incomplete and will eventually have their full set of skills rather than just 2 so I don’t know how that will play out. But I don’t like the idea of having to use multiple weapons if I don’t want to either. If I want to be a samurai who only uses one katana, I want to be able to play the game at a reasonable level with just a katana. I don’t want to run around with a katana + a spear and a hammer or whatever the hell that doesn’t fit in with my theme.
Although this is a small issue I have with it and I probably have no idea what I am talking about, I feel like unless vertex plans on drastically increasing the cooldowns of skill(which I highly doubt), there is basically no point to having another moveset. IMO just one magic is already enough for you to be doing something constantly. Even though I’m not a mage main when I did play it I never felt like I was waiting for my cooldowns or anything. I imagine the same goes for fighters as well. So aside from stuff like elemental synergies there really any advantage from more magic
For pure mage 2 magics is definitely a good spot as it allows you to sort of bypass cds by mixing in different magics; on the other hand, 3 feels like it will be a little excessive
Just fire kind of seems boring if you’re going to screw with the environment. There’s other destructive magics like Ash or Magma or Explosion or…you get the gist of it.
Samurai did use spears and hammers. It’s probably the weapon variations that’ll be more of a problem. (example being commodore kai’s saber not suiting a samurai look like the katana, but it being objectively better)
2 Magics works since it opens synergies and beam/blast cycling, 3 magics is just unneeded outside of more scroll moves. Strength on the other hand doesn’t really need additional slots as it currently has far less synergy potential (on it’s own) and you can’t really cycle that well with styles.
But that’s not my point though. Idc if it was historically accurate or whatever, who cares. My issue with it is that I don’t want to use them. I like swords so why can’t I use just only the sword. not to mention I’ll give u 100 bucks if u can find me a samurai who went onto a battlefield with a sword in hand, a spear in the other, and a 2 handed hammer on his back
I think that the third magic slot will be useful for when we get access to lost magics. Mages can use either two lost magics or one lost and one ancient, so until ancient magics come two lost magics are gonna be meta for mages
but seriously, I obviously am not saying that everyone should be forced to use only 1 weapon. If u wanna use all 3 weapon slots u should be able to. I just wish there was some mechanic that caters to those that want to specialize. like maybe an aura skill that buffs cd/dmg but restricts you to 1 weapon type
Considering how there can be synergies that can be extremely good, only one weapon that just deals more damage will likely have far too much trouble keeping up with a moveset that actually has variety (you’re gonna be predictable af compared to your opponents)
Unless if you have a broken move you can spam, you’re not winning.
