It’s more like Roblox shrinking its own scope, instead of diversifying and making room for more genres, I think they’re trying to force everyone into a bit of a Grow a Garden-shaped bubble.
They think it would be most profitable to force every dev to become Grow a Garden, rather than allowing more kinds of games to be profitable on the platform.
there’s a bit more nuance to it than that. yes, this model encourages games like grow a garden. that may be the point. but it also stops people from creating afk worlds and making nothing content last for hours and hours. i do think the old system was definitely far better, though, and it would be better to punish people for trying to game it rather than trying to change it completely
: ( [incremental games get hit quite possibly the worst by this since the business model is like almost fully reliant on premium payouts]
I mean that’s certainly a good thing with it killing off any ‘simulator’ games, but at the same time this hinders basically any other game that is centered around long sessions. Ultimately this just feels like a net negative for the platform
I know that this probably won’t kill (as in “destroy development”) AO, but it’s still wild to think about 13-year-old Vetex making Arcane Adventures, all while being unaware of Roblox eventually destroying both it AND its sequel with the power of spontaneous changes.
At least with AO, there’s now multiple people classified as devs. I guess an easy way to make do with this change is to revive the bi-monthly Vanity Item Events from the Monetization Ideas trello card, a la Frankenstein’s Monster. I doubt that’ll be enough, though.
I’m wondering how this’ll affect the gameplay of my own project, mainly because I was never concerned with monetization until now when I was like “wait, I gotta think about how I’ll make money, don’t I?”
I dunno, simplest solution is to add a side mechanic that takes a day to finish.
if nobody cared the game wouldnt be averaging 1k right now arguably in its worst state it will ever be in, i dont understand the mindset that if you dont care for something others wont.
yeah ao will probably take the hit just bc if it didn’t vetex would be out on the streets in around a year
patreon is apparently enough to cover his rent but anything else is probably held up by what ao makes, which rn is about 100-200 dollars a day based on robux exchange rates
id be more than fine with a few more micro transactions as long as ao stays around
As long as it doesn’t tip too far into paying for advantages for my taste, I’m fine with it. If the game starts feeling bad because I didn’t pay for something and someone else did, it was fun while it lasted.
he has a ton of monetization plans he just needs to add all of them, plus he could even make more, theres a whole sub community fixated on drip why not make a battle pass that gives cosmetics.
