I refuse to get water diffed
Youâre so true for that
I mean natural chemical bonds should exist since the AU is just our world but with the Olympians and magic. So atomic structures, periodic trends, and the different types of elements and bonds should exist. However, the knowledge of these things would probably be limited to metal alloys or simple compounds like acids. Basically chemistry should work the same the people just donât know what it really is.
Edit: please for the love of everything do not turn this into another Morock argument thread.
The Arcane Odyssey fandom trying to make sense of the lore made by the Man of a Thousand Retcons.
one plot point I simply donât understand is the idea that magic existing slows down or even halts the progress of science.
like cmon, imagine how much faster electricity would have been discovered if Benjamin Franklin could shoot lightning out of his hands.
Same with Tesla lol.
i didnt know i could make someone mentally handicapped wtf
âif it aint broke dont fix itâ
why would you NEED electricity when you could shoot lightning out of your fingertips
Yeah, the way I see it either people somehow got complacent? Even though magic does absolutely nothing utility wise, or theyâre too busy killing each other to think about how magic could be used to expand their knowledge of the world. The third option is that the golden age was a time of progress and development and it got destroyed in The Fracturing. However, thereâs no evidence for this.
I also headcanon that the larger Sky Islands like Sky Hall, are slightly more advanced. With magically sourced electricity, that I call fulguricity, and things like type-writers. Though thatâs due to two Cursebearer OCâs that I have running the Agora. One has the Ink Curse the other the Paper Curse. This is due to the relative peace the Sky Islands experience compared to the sea islands, so they have more time to actually advance.
I personally headcanon that major historical figures did, in fact, exist in AO. They just werenât as significant as they were in real life.
Abraham Lincoln was the man who could chop a tree in half with one blow, and wrestle an Atlantean mutant with one arm tied behind his back. Julius Ceaser was an exceptionally tactical mage. Marie Curie revolutionized enchanting. Stuff like that.
he existed before magic so nah
I know itâs blasphemy to go against the new lore, but I also headcanon that Prometheus giving humanity magic occurred in Greek mythological times. Maybe several hundred years before the fall of Troy.
Nah I just realized the the truth(let not talk about morock for my sanity sake)
Because you canât run a factory off a single mage. There are so many reasons to have industry in the AU, but they just donât, probably again, because theyâre too busy killing each other to actually experiment. Except that the War Seas should be the perfect place for such advancement, because you canât just sacrifice all your mages in military service. There should be dozens of factories creating and developing new weaponry for their non-magical troops, and in that process discover new things that make peopleâs lives better.
Also, even if they start out using mages in place of machines, those mages are going to want to automate it thus leading to more machinery.
âYâknow these magic users seem like quite the hassle to kill with our current weapons, maybe we should like develop better ones.â War is the perfect reason to continue technological development, especially in the case of weaponry
Exactly
Not only that, but I doubt the common man wants to be reliant on mages for everything, thus machinery and automation not based on magic energy should not only exist but be developing at a rapid pace. The only reason I can think that itâs not is that someone or a group of mages is actively suppressing technological development.
hence the creation of arcanium metal
âŚWhich exists solely to benefit magic users (Devourers donât count as theyâre made with a different form of arcanium)
