Considerable ones.
Step stones will be effected even noted by vetex but I think the dark seas will be much more effected with some aspects impossible as of youâre holding a chest you canât climb or anything so youâll just fall to your death
Would NPCs take fall damage?
I mean, even if itâs mitigable and rarely causes you to actually die⌠why? This is a game where the player regenerates health without using up resources, and will likely enter all combats at full HP. In addition, I doubt thereâs anything currently intentionally designed to make the fall damage something to plan around. No climbs to plan, no parkour to do, nothing.
It doesnât add anything, thatâs the plain and simple truth. It doesnât add anything to the player experience.
Fall damage has its place in games like Minecraft, where long drops are something to consider, plan around, and sometimes use against enemies. It has a place in Elden Ring, where it forces the player to calculate where to fall so they avoid draining valuable resources, as the player doesnât regenerate health naturally.
There are no resources to drain in Arcane Odyssey, there is nothing for the player to use in preparation. All it serves is as a way to basically say âpress G or die, nerdâ.
Probably the best way to interprate this change:
It might not be that annoying; but that just makes it an existing nuance for no particular reason. If, for example, you couldnât regen Health in the Dark seas, and their terrain was built IN AN ACTUALLY SCALABLE WAY WITH CHESTS IN MIND, then I could understand the change. Maybe if it had an effect in combat, so things like knockback and Air-stalling had to be considered a lot more carefullyâŚ
But all it brings right now is a slight annoyance, which may make for a funny one off moment.
Ah thereâs nothing more engaging to the soul than brainlessly climbing and regenerating stamina in the name of treasure!
didnt they get nerfed already, size doesnt affect knockback anymore in fr iirc (or at least, less idk, dont got the image on hand rn)
just parry the fall dmg ![]()
Dark Sea mega-islands will make fall damage annoying tbh. I like climbing those spires sometimes and the only way to go down is falling off of it. Gliding down with a glider could work but the DS chests will be left behind. There has to be a way to extract those chests without having me or the deckhands to carry them (donât want the deckhands to die lol)
they added climbing gear which allows you and your deckhands to scale to higher places but i forgot if it lets you carry chests while climbing aswell
iirc when it was called secret behaviour, it did mention npcs having it so yea probably
getting a free kill off a level 260 mage criminal because it decided to dash off a cliff and die.. peak
depends on how vetex makes airstalling to interact with fall dmg, pretty sure there is a ss of vetex saying that a leap wouldnt stop fall dmg but the question is if it subtracts, like that u can just do a few spells and be fine, or if u can use the glider to just stop fall dmg
Didnât we just a month or so go over the removal of hunger, a meter that did not do anything other than make the game more annoying for the player?
Yeah I get itâs going to be implemented so that itâs not that extreme of a hinderance but why even do this to begin with
You mentioned Elden Ring and resource management, but itâs moreso about controlling the playerâs movement, making them only capable of going through one of many paths and enhancing their experience by polishing each of them.
Fall damage wonât ever do that when we have mobility skills and climbing, much less with how itâll only start from thrice a charged jumpâs height while capable of being parried. Besides that, we already have an incentive to not fall off places that would actually be influenced by it: we donât want to climb up to them again (e.g. cirrus, othris, and skyhall soon), so why make it harder to leave them on purpose?
Bc realism or something idk
Side note - assassinâs can like, blow up someoneâs sky ship while they are on it to assassinate them
Actual murder plots ![]()
that was the same explanation for hunger as far as i recall and we know how that went
in any case, i wasnât asking you.
Then donât ask in rfao ![]()
no offense for vetex, but does he know game design? i literally see no point in any of this, if is just there bc ârealismâ then that a horrible reason
Funnily enough this same argument could go for our characters smearing themselves in shit upon opening a chest or getting suburnt
