Ok so one game has you click a button and it occasionally changes weather and that increases your odds to get certain things.
Another game has you click a button and it occasionally changes weather and that increases your odds to get certain things.
The odds of the weather events are irrelevant, it is the same thing.
You suggested I add more Sol’s RNG to fix the Sol’s RNG problem.
Anyways can you get to the point and give an actual reason you don’t want to see fishing revamped aside from “but vetex said he wanted it to stay relaxing!!!”
It’s not that he doesn’t want fishing revamped btw, it’s that Vetex is set on making fishing stay as it is. From his replies so far, I can see that he agrees that fishing itself needs some changes.
I don’t know what part of me writing this suggestion read as:
“I care about the thing vetex said nearly two years ago about fishing when its still clearly a problem and has been a problem for nearly five years”
I never mentioned any of this, I’m thinking more like extreme weather events where a storm shows up and there are sea monsters eating rare fish, you defeat the sea monster and get to fish for a bit, or dark sea islands with labyrinths and caves where ponds can appear, etc. More interesting circumstances basically cause minigames will get you bored eventually
I like your ideas for fishing techniques and they’d help make it a bit more interesting but personally i dont think theyd be worth adding anytime soon, theres just lots more interesting things planned
I dont think the fishing task itself needs a revamp but it should be treated as a cool way of collecting a reward, not something you do for hours on end. There should be ways of getting specific species of fish through fishing in specific areas during certain weather conditions, visiting certain types of islands in the dark sea, etc.
when talking about additions to ao you have to consider dev time, coding new fishing minigames would be cool if ao had more devs but currently the bottleneck is implementation, not ideas. Adding them simply wouldn’t be worth prioritizing other things, at least not for the next year or two cause there are so many other cool planned features
yea you do, cause collecting rewards (which is what I think fishing should be treated as) in itself is a very time efficient activity. That’s like saying you never get anything worthwhile out of opening gold chests or sealed chests, you clearly do
you said youd find fishing spots in forms a shipwreck or a gathering of fish around the map and talked about diving points so to me it doesn’t really sound like anything adventurous, it was kind of vague though so idk maybe you have more ideas
Yes but terrible comparison because you get jack shit from fishing 99% of the time.
Unless you’re calling the mountain of common fish piling up in your inventory worthwhile.
can u go back and read when i elaborated on the ways youd find these unique fishing spots? I never said youd just get regular fish from them, thatd obviously be dumb
I actually play AO with my friends in a small clan.
I’d take a fishing overhaul over clan features any day and I’m confident they’d all make the same decision.
I’m also confident that the vast majority of the playerbase who do not interact with clans in any meaningful way would say the same thing.
thats not really a good way of judging the playerbase as a whole (not saying thats what youre doing)
obviously the majority of people who dont interact with clans wont care about them. Although I think lots of people will join clans when there are actual incentives like the reagent pot , making cool island builds, and the planned archipelago rewards (not sure what they are). Vetex also plans on making npcs raid your islands in the future which is cool
Honestly I’ll have to see how the clan building system is actually handled before saying anything definitive about it but I just find it hard to believe that its, in any way, going to make clans less toxic and unapproachable for the average player.
If anything I only see those issues getting worse.
Me fishing while chatting with someone because atleast then I do SOMETHING productive (and get hard sw Chestplate in the process):
Slider bar - there’s a bar on the screen with a smaller one in it and a line, clicking (and holding click) moves the bar to the right, letting the mouse go moves the bar to the left. Keep the ‘line’ in the smaller bar while it moves around
Conclusion: yay diversity, will probably need a small tutorial on how the other ones work though
I wouldn’t say this is a fishing rework but more so of an extension of the existing fishing system to allow for more “active” gameplay (which is more complicated than simply waiting until the exclamation mark appear and spam clicking).
The passive fishing is still there, this suggestion just give an option to the players who wish for a gameplay more active than one that even a literal amoeba can play.
Everything here in this suggestion also look pretty optional so players who want to stick to the same old simple gameplay as before wouldn’t even notice a shred of difference.
There might be a cause for concerns about gameplay balance since this suggestion would increase the rate at which players can gain loot from fishing, but I think there are enough tradeoffs to justify for it anyway, and if it’s too unbalanced then just leave it to the balancing team.
As someone who has fished FAR too much, I would love something to make fishing more exciting, currently just looking out for a ‘!’ then rapidly clicking isn’t very fun.
