First and foremost this suggestion has NOTHING to do with fighting styles.

Explanation: Right now fishing is in an odd place. Some people like it because its a nice way to take a break from the faster parts of the game, other people don’t like it because its too slow. Why not make a middle ground to satisfy both groups?

Fishing techniques are varying minigames with different complexity and difficulty, the more complex and difficult the minigame is, the better your loot chances are.
These minigames would have no specific stat requirements because that’d suck.
(Imagine if you needed 100 points in strength or magic to “learn” the fishing technique you actually want to enjoy)

You could learn these minigames at different places throughout the bronze sea.

Redwake: Basic Fishing.
What we have now, lowest rewards, easiest to complete.

Palo Town: Focused Fishing (from AFR)

This one is dependent on you using shiftlock to control it.
When you catch a fish, the half circle will apear, the white line represents where you’re aiming and the green (or red) line is where the fish is.
Moving the mouse controls the white line and the goal is to keep it near the red line, which will turn green when you’re within range.
When you’re in the target area, progress fills until you catch the fish.
When you’re not in the target area, progress depletes until you lose the fish.

Rarer fish would move more erratically and be harder to catch.
(if you’re noticing those 5 unfilled diamond shapes in the bottom, those are completely unrelated)

Sailor’s Lodge: Dredging (from Dredge)

The indicator moves around the red circle, when it crosses into green areas and you click, you fill up the progress bar showing how close the fish is on the left.
Missing the green areas would deplete the progress, unlike the game this minigame comes from, missing too many times would make you lose the fish.
Higher rarity fish and items would have the green areas be smaller.

There’s a few parts of the UI here that wouldn’t be relevant to AO’s setting, such as the fish being “costal” or the stock being “high”.

Each of these minigames would offer different challenges and different rewards.
Of course it would (and should) be possible to catch everything with basic fishing as it is now, using focused fishing or dredging would give you better chances.

There’s plenty of other fishing minigames out there that could also be implemented to add more variety into the system, everybody will have their own preferences.

I’m sure SOMEBODY can come up with better names for these lol.

Dredge has enought minigames to fill this suggestion alone

I can actually be stimulated and not AFK on another tab while fishing for sunkens??? have my vote sir :face_with_monocle:

true but I think it’d be much better to use fishing minigames from a whole bunch of different sources since they’ll mostly be quite different and offer unique challenges from each other.
most of dredge’s fishing minigames are very similar to each other outside of the actual dredging minigame.

I can’t wait for sunken traders to realize this suggestion would devalue sunkens and get angry
at me.

the thought of fishing metamancing is scary but sounds fun enough

Where Dark sea fishing technique

It would only make sense for the dark sea to contain the most complicated and difficult fishing technique but I have no idea what it would be.

why not have the Palo Town be the mechanic from Genshin Impact? theres a bar on the screen (half circle in your case) with a smaller bar representing the green/red line in your instance, theres also a vertical line which is the white line in your instande

instead of using the mouse movement, to go to the right side you have to click LMB, you can also hold it down

to go the the left side you have to not click anything

when your line is in the smaller bar, progress will go up, when its not in the smaller bar, progress wil go down untill you lose the fish

the smaller bar has varying sizes depending on the fish yu catch, it will also move around more

then again, it needs to be slightly tweaked otherwise copyright is going to strike AO down

overal great suggestion

because I know literally nothing about Genshin and from your description it is near identical to AFR fishing anyways lol.

Lore wise sunkens are worthless since you can buld armor for entire army and keep it in sea and untill you get sunked version

makes fishing less boring
cool

While I do like this a lot of people can’t shift lock so maybe change the Palo fishing style.

I need fishing needs attached to ship

how on earth are people not able to shiftlock?
this is a PC game, everybody playing it has the option lol.

if they don’t want to shiftlock then the palo technique just isn’t for them.
that’s kinda the point in having a bunch.

well for me the latter option seems better
or just ‘borrow’ the mechanic from Fishing Simulator

Fishing simulator copied it too

Copied what
Fishing simulator was released before the fishing update from Genshin

PLEASE FISHING STUFF.

(yes, its a complete sentence.)

AHHHH, pack it up. And here I was all excited.
