Forum Minigame: Gamemaker

  • Locate the salmon
  • Breach the salmon

hey it’s very secure salmon!

Okay maybe WT hasn’t drained everything. Maybe it was that one prompt I struggled with.

Let’s see what else you’ve got (whenever you’re ready ofc)

Day 2 - Gamemaker

You may still participate in the previous days.

Prompt: Create a game concept with these following rules.

Genre - Singleplayer Puzzle
This can be anything that fits into the genre, whether a horror investigative puzzle game, or a brain-teasing maths puzzle.

Limitations -

  • The game must be able to be developed with your current skillset, alone.
  • The game must either include, or fit the theme of “monochrome.”

Un-limitations -

  • Your game doesn’t necessarily have to be a video game. Design it as if you could use any resource, engine or material as it’s core.
  • Your game will magically be polished in whatever state you leave it in. It won’t have any minor or annoying bugs or other small issues.

Baseline -
All other factors not mentioned, such as time, budget, your target and potential audiences, mental strain and the like will apply as default, as if you were designing a real game (with intent to create).

Good luck!

will we be making the most popular game for this entire topic

i think it’d be pretty cool as a community project

No because I don’t know a guy who knows a guy, and I don’t have unlimited budget. The point of the ideas are to put unique twists that allow you to have a lot more freedom than practical, but also to work around weird and wacky roadblocks.

well if we get a poll for the most popular game by the end of this, i’d be down to help dev it :+1:

sh*t

now let me remind everyone here that Scratch exists for this one

once again

sh*t

scratch is still very limiting…

I just call that closemindedness lol

My very limited knowledge of modding is not saving my ass here

Hai hai
(This was suppose to be a day 1 submission but I guess it works for day 2 as well)

Stealth is optional*

A top-down stealth puzzle shooter where you try to avoid guards blocking your escape of a super secret facility. But here’s the catch. The one weapon you have is a minigun. Why??, who knows, ask the guard you just knocked out.

You begin on the lowest level of the facility, floor 099 with 99 floors to go. The only guard on your floor (the one you just knocked out) has a tablet that shows the layout of the floor and the locations of the guards at all times (,hurray plot convenience). As you make your way to the second floor, you’ll notice now that there are two guards on this floor instead of one. You can attempt to take them out one at a time but they are just far enough away that you can’t quite do a take down on one without the other noticing and tripping the alarm. This is where the minigun comes in, and this is where stealth is optional.

Gameplay

In a similar style to tiny tanks on roblox, you control a player from a top down perspective. There are walls in the room to block sight but luckily, you have a handy tablet that shows you the layout of the room. Your goal is to kill every single guard in the room before any of them have the chance to trip the alarm.

The moment you start shooting, a 5 - 10 second timer begins before all surviving guards try to trigger the alarm. I hope you have a plan before that happens. By default the minigun can pierce through a layer of wall, allowing you to hit enemies hiding in rooms and hallways. This can be upgraded in later rooms to pierce more walls, bounce off walls, be silent, or explode.

damn, specifically “singleplayer” kills it

Flow Free, except you are a masochist. (Singleplayer Puzzle & Rage Game)

Have you ever heard of the game, Flow Free? It’s this-

Connect and link colours to each other, all while ensuring that the entire grid is filled up.
Simple right?

Alright, now imagine this, except you can’t see colour.

It’s flow free, except it has a 50x50 grid map and 50 shades of grey.

Match and link circles with their respective colour and shade of grey. Also, don’t forget to not leave empty boxes! And maybe start crying too.

Truly, a game worthy of GoTY.

I have spent many multiple-month phases addicted to it

Silhouette

A short black&white 2.5d platformer in which one will have to rotate complex 3d shapes in order to build the path to the end.

Set in a shattered and moody world of white skies and black ground, the player character must navigate through various environments that requires to be fixed by rotating a 3d shape on all axis until it’s in the correct direction.

Development Details

Built inside of Roblox, it would make use of onTouch triggers to initiate each puzzles which would feature 3d models made by yours truly.

Challenges: Remembering basic LuaU, modelling a lengthy scenery
Skillset: 3d modelling in blender, basic LuaU knowledge, experience with Roblox studio
Engine benefits: Uses the only programming language that I can use, has a built-in player with movement and animations, has a decent audio library to rely on

I’ve only now come to realise that this is practically a game of game jams.
