For the American among you, Timor-Leste is a country in Southeast Asia.
“Leste” is Portuguese for “east.” “Timor” is derived from “timur,” the Malay word for “east.” Thus, Timor-Leste translates to East-East.

Being from macau doesn’t innately give him any credibility, this type of false etymology is called folk etymology

it is situated in Guangdong, a Chinese province that is known for its Cantonese-speaking population. It was occupied by the Portuguese but is now known for having a sort of dual-government system due to the population not wanting to fully go back to Chinese rule.
