Hey all. To preface this suggestion, some of you may be familiar with an old update for the first-person shooter known as “Operation Health”. Rather than providing any new content, this update focused solely on fixing many of the broken aspects of the game and providing more stability and reliability when it game to connection and the like. Though they are very different games, I think Arcane Odyssey is in desperate need of something similar.

Each update, the game grows more and more laggy, and less and less enjoyable to play.

  • We have a cooking pot memory leak, a major cauldron memory leak, and a memory leak that causes your game to freeze for longer and longer the more you M1 with magic-imbued Thermo Fist, leaving you without options to charge.

  • Every time a player leaves or joins a server, the game freezes, which seems to have grown even more noticeable this update. Can lead to deaths in PvE and is a massive hindrance to quality PvP.

  • Storyline NPCs just not appearing sometimes leaves a lot of new players very confused, and if prevalent enough (which it tends to be) I’m sure can cause some of them to quit.

  • Diving structures and diving points still just refuse to load sometimes.

  • Whirlpools are frequently invisible or client-sided, leading to some very infuriating moments and deaths.

I could make a much larger list, but I feel it’d be largely redundant.

On top of this, there are still plenty of unaddressed bugs that directly affect gameplay.

Vetex is a great dev and the game has a lot of moving parts, so I don’t blame the little things for slipping through the cracks. However, I’m very, very worried for what the future of this game is gunna look like when more and more issues get piled on and remain unaddressed.

I think it would be for the best if either the Darksea update, or the one to release after that, is slightly postponed, while Vetex takes some time to fix most of the game’s performance issues and major bugs. It would hugely increase quality of life and make playing the game far more enjoyable overall, though I’m sure it’d get some backlash as players don’t really like being told that an update is being pushed back or delayed.

Let me know your thoughts below, and whether or not you’d be willing to wait a little bit longer for a major update in exchange for a smaller game-health oriented one.

Right now Vetex seems more focused on content and surface level fixing exploits and major bugs, I’m sure we’ll have a major bug patch down the line, but speaking from experience in game design: fixing bugs and problems is fucking boooooooring. It can be incredibly mindnumbing and frustrating and you just want to punch something after the fifteenth time you tried to fix the same problem and it just won’t work-

Sorry, yeah we’ll probably need an update like this down the line, but I just wouldn’t wish the brain-killing monotony on my worst enemy, let alone one of my favorite devs.

Man, I tried learning to make games with python, and I got quite decent. But the moment I tried to implement a way to make levels outside of the script, I CAN’T GET IT TO WORK!!! It took a whole ass YEAR till I learned what I did wrong! And even then, I kinda lost the will to work on projects.

As for the suggestion, I agree that a lot of things are very frustrating. I’ve been facing a downright bizzare bug lately where someone will use a beam on munera garden, and it’ll hit me when the dude was facing the opposite way. And every beam seems to hit the same direction while actually getting me. I’d love a bug fix update, just hope that comes up on his priorities. Or he addresses these bugs in the dark sea update.

Very necessary for the game at this rate, preferably now would be a good time due to the size of the Dark Sea update and the possible issues from it that could stack with current ones

“I’m sure we’ll have a major bug patch down the line”
this is why games never get a bug fixed IF YOU SEE A BUG REPORT IT
sure maybe someone has already reported it but guess what: they won’t fix it because it seems to be a rare bug thing
this game is still “[Early Access]” so call it out and get mad when they don’t fix it

and also bugs get worse over time because they’re more systems
if you want a good example of this happening is subnautica

this may seem mean or disrespectful of Vetex but he won’t know/do it if WE DON’T ask for it

he has my vote!

Jeez, there’s even more bugs and memory leaks than I thought. I thought it was just terrain destruction and some egregiously bad spells that caused lag, but there seems to be a lot more than I thought. In my experience even a 20 minute old server the game still can’t run at 60 fps, even when I turn down most of the graphical settings to the lowest. And I’m sure that one of my siblings can vouch for story NPC’s not loading, and another for egregiously laggy spells (snow magic from the wizard dude on the sky islands).

Fixing bugs might not be fun for Vetex or appealing for Roblox players who only want constant updates and have no patience, but I think this would be best for the games future.

These kinds of things makes me wish Vetex had help on the coding side of things so that bugfixes could be handled more quickly. No shade to him, though.

better to make the game more polished than add new, unpolished content
im looking at you NIC

Abc

this comment section convinced me to get OBS and start reporting more bugs
also yeah, I have a decent computer, but I cannot imagine what it feels for people on laptops. the lag issue can straight up kill some games that don’t deal with them.

NIC is the name for a roblox game called Noobs in Combat
doesnt sound like it, because the updates are rushed and unpolished
so now its just Find Bugs 24/7 While Trying To Play A Game Simulator

I was wondering about that but btw that was just a bump

I’d say I own a decent pc but don’t have medal yet, how badly does it affect performance (Idk if you have it but the OBS comment reminded me).

I want medal for obvious safety reasons but if AO just becomes laggy from it I probably just wouldn’t get it

I downloaded medal quite a while ago and I’ve never even thought about the possibility it could affect performance until now.

If it does affect performance I haven’t noticed.

How much storage does medal take up

no idea I never checked!

Oh okay

Yeah, as much as I want to see nimbusussy sea, vetex needs to take a step back for a while. I have been experiencing severe lag spikes while being in the nearest server region possible. Worse if I get placed in NA.

This might be a perfect time to implement the optimizations I saw in the trello.

The moment roblox allows player made games to be put into groups, vetex can finally hire people to help him develop his game.

OT: I feel like there’s a shit ton of crap vetex NEEDS to work on before even approaching the nimbus sea. Not even just bugs, there’s so much shit that the game doesn’t have yet that should be added before A WHOLE ENTIRE SEA

We still don’t have

  • An entire stat route (Vitality)
  • Island Building
  • Auctioning
  • Sunken Ships
  • Fort Castrum

And vetex wants to add in another sea after this update. God save us all
