Fan fiction is just fiction written by a fan of something involving things from that something, you neednt continue an existing narrative, but can instead use it as a toolbox to craft your own if you so desire.

Yrni0, I have seen someone write fanfiction for ao3, Project Zomboid, castle crashers, media that has no real fiction, but has characters, or has the format to HAVE characters, and thats enough. Do not doubt the fanfic writers, they will jump you
