Every 2-3 ingame hours, an annoucement is sent out to the server. This message alerts players to the arrival of a gilded merchant
15 Minutes later the merchant appears in the middle of Ravena and stays for a short time before leaving again.
Players can trade with the merchant during this short time. Unlike regular merchants, gilded merchants offer unique wares for extraordinarily high amounts of galleons
Possible Purchases
Gilded Merchants would randomly choose 6 items to be available per purchase, each player can only buy 1 of each selected item per appearance.
Armor/Equipment
12,500 Galleons - Bleached Arcanum Gauntlets - A strange pair of gauntlets that have no stats but any enchantments placed unto them will add 3x the stats.
15,000 Galleons - White Eyes Cloak - A protective coat fashioned out of hide taken from a white eyes shark, gives a small amount of defense and protection against most environmental hazards. Effects would include immunity to dark sea water poisoning, better temperature regulation(cant get overheating or freezing), halved damage from lighting strikes, grants the ability to resist out of tsunamis.
15,000 Galleons - Arcane Capacitor - A bracelet that gives attackspeed and increases the maximum magic energy of its user.
100,000 Galleons - Golden Armor - Solid gold armor with a very small amount of defense. Very flashy and emits gold particle effects. Purely a flex item for people who still have too much money.
Weapons
15,000 Galleons - Compound Bow - Rare bow with a unique M1, M1 can be held down to charge. The longer charge is held the faster/more damaging the arrow will be. Skills gain increased damage from charging. Has low base damage to compensate.
15,000 Galleons - Tower Shield - Massive shield made from a strangely resistant alloy, Passive slowdown on the wearer but provides a massive amount of blocking power.
100,000 Galleons - Golden Weapon - Solid gold versions of each weapon in the game. Stats are the same as the common version but the weapons emit gold particles and weapon skills are very flashy. Flex item for people who have too much money.
Misc
5,000 Galleons - Blank Scroll - A special scroll crafted by master alchemists, can be used on an enchanted item to remove that enchantment. The enchantment is then copied onto the blank scroll, giving the user the removed enchantment.
7,500 Galleons - Gilded Treasure Chart - A treasure chart that gives a massive payout. The final spot will include many sealed chests and reward a huge amount of rare gems. This treasure chart can be stolen by other players so the buyer needs to act fast if they want their payout!
15,000 Galleons - Advanced Compass - A highly advanced compass that gives more information about the dark sea than a regular compass could. If the player opens the map with an advanced compass in their inventory, They can see how far they are into a zone of the dark sea.
250,000 Galleons - Golden Ship Armor - The ultimate flex, a solid plating of gold on the buyer’s ship! Same stats as archaic but way cooler.
Note that if gilded merchants were added there would be more than just these items, This group of items is meant to demonstrate what kind of items the gilded merchants would sell.
Reason to add/change
Once a player purchases a brig there are almost no galleon sinks in the game leading to massive stockpiles of galleons with nothing to spend them on. Gilded merchants would add new unique items to obtain while adding a galleon sink.
I can understand the discontent for pvp mechanics but I feel this won’t be an issue here as the rewards for gilded charts can be obtained elsewhere unlike aa’s legendary weapons. Players can choose to get a big reward at great risk or farm the gems normally.
I feel like this is too:
Rare
Overpowered Gearwise
Not Rare Enough (Global Server Announcements Make It Far More Common)
Expensive
There doesn’t really need to be a galleon sink in the game when you already lose like a thousand on death if you’re not poor, and the item suggestions are way too absurd for our current level.
A big issue that even the balance team can’t seem to fathom, is that we’re at the very first sea. We should not have absurd stats or absurd powers, even if it’s to prepare for the second out of eight seas.
Also, I feel like the whole “every 2-3 ingame hours” part doesn’t really fit with Arcane Odyssey as a whole, kind of like how eh the Filter event feels like in Lore Game
There are already lots of galleon sinks: the brig, ship componenents, enchanting, upgrading, and the upcoming deckhand changes.
Eventually you’ll buy everything, but that’s ok - it only happens long after you’ve exhausted pretty much all of the content in the game.
I’m not opposed to a galleon sink for people who’ve bought everything and want something to dump their passively earned galleons into, but I don’t think we should make useful items absurdly expensive. It’s fine for people who have the stockpile to buy it anyway, but if you’re a new player/slot and you want one of these items, you’ll end up cargo trading for hours.
It’s a gilded merchant, why not just have them sell cosmetic gold stuff?
I’d like the suggestion a lot more if you took out all of the postgame equipment and the merchant only sold gilded weapons/boats/armour.
I like this idea ngl, but yeah it’ll have to be PvP-proofed (if the merchant is in one area, thats gonna be an ideal farm spot for the toxic metamancers)
All the items suggested would fit pretty well into the game (even the golden armour being a flex)
golden stuff could be used as an trading item that represents their worth (eg: golden armor could represent 100k and golden ship armor could represent 250k)
I like the idea, don’t really like what’s being sold. Just feels like more metamancer end game clogs. I like the idea of cosmetics being sold for a high galleon price, don’t like the idea of actual useful stuff being sold, just feels like a galleon grind.
Now the golden weapon is an idea I like but don’t think it’s implemented correctly here, basically most weapons people use in the game aren’t standard weapons. For hybrids, I do see standard weapons like iron staff and greatsword being used, but there’s better weapons people use like kai’s sabre, silent claws, poison tooth dagger, etc. And for warriors they probably don’t use any standard weapons, elius weapons, calvus triasta, vindicator, atlantean weapons, you get my point.
But I do like the idea of golden modifiers to weapons, that’s why I propose a Weapon Goldifier. Very similar, when used on a weapon it turns it golden, with the changes you listed above.
basically, golden weapons could be cool, cosmetics could be cool, the rest nah i don’t wanna cargo all day for some boosts that could really matter.
I am completely down for gimmick items and cosmetic modifiers being added like this.
Aside from the unique weapons like the compound bow and tower shield, which should be left to base gameplay, I like almost every example item shown here.
I personally never take the exact numbers shown in a suggestion seriously because there’s a near 0% chance that if it were implemented those would be the numbers used regardless.
this reminds me of the mysterious merchant in arcane lineage, so if you look at that you may be able to get a better idea of how to refine this suggestion
with that in mind, here’s what I suggest:
gilded merchant has multiple spawn locations, potentially spanning multiple islands
gilded merchant is guaranteed two unique items plus maybe always carrying the gilded charts
gilded merchant has 8 items total per spawn, and items that aren’t guaranteed to be his uniques may be other rare items instead such as gemstones (small chance for non-dark sea exotic ones), enchantment scrolls, high tier potion reagents, etc
also gilded charts should stay with the player that bought them on death, until the first step is completed (if you’re going to keep stealing charts as a thing)
