Grand Navy Death Report: Palomedes Torres
December 1854
Grand Navy Office of Human Loss
Head Office
Headquarters
Commanding Officer: Vice Admiral Cain
This report has been approved by the Grand Navy Office of Human Loss and details the death of Palomedes Torres, Rank Admiral, Honour Highest. This document will be filed in the Olympian Vault and must not be tampered with out of respect to the fallen. Anybody not under the Office of Human Loss or Office of the Admiralty cannot remove this file without permission directly from Vice Admiral Cain, Rear Admiral Adkins or The King Admiral Adkins.
Cause of Death
Palomedes Torres was killed by an unknown person on his ship, Oceanus while in the Bronze Sea in search of Lord Al’Tros Durant, Corsair, after being sent by the Office for Dispatch and Command, Officers Adkins and Nebula. Medical reports suggest he was impaled by some sort of crystalline structure. A Sea Curse is suspected.
Reports from The Lord’s Regime suggest that the moment he had heard of Torres’ death, The King Admiral himself flew to the Bronze Sea to retrieve Oceanus and the body. Oceanus was returned to headquarters quickly. The ship has been grounded against Risenheir Bay, and will not sail again.
Admiral Torres
Admiral Torres was recruited to the Grand Navy via unknown circumstances many years ago. We know little about his background but as a descendent of the Vastus, an ancient race of giants we believe lived hundreds of years ago, he provided extremely helpful support to the Grand Navy. He quickly became the bane of pirates everywhere and rose through the ranks. Along with his terrifying height and strength, he was a tactical mastermind and his promotion to Admiral was inevitable.
The Decay Curse Incident
After his promotion to Admiral, Torres was offered the Decay Curse. He rejected this offer stating that he’d never take a Sea Curse if it meant outliving those he loved. Before he could be convinced otherwise, the Decay Curse did something we never had seen before. It destroyed itself along with two other Sea Curses in storage. Torres never ended up with a Sea Curse.
Oceanus
One of Torres’ key weapons was his ship Oceanus. Controversially, the Grand Navy Office of Shipbuilding ordered the ship from the Sameria Province rather than from our own shipbuilders. It was the largest ship in our arsenal, slightly bigger than the Lord’s Regime and built for war. The cabin was large enough for Torres to move around comfortably in, and the deck was wide enough for giant custom-built cannons to line the entire ship. As the largest in our arsenal, we also required it to deter Keraxe on multiple occasions when they stepped too far.
Family
Torres had no direct family. We believe he at some point had a partner in the Aegean Sea but he rarely spoke about her. We have not succeeded in our contact attempts.
Funeral
Palomedes Torres will be buried on Risenheir Bay along with his fallen comrades. His grave will mark a man we shall all miss dearly.
Aftermath
The King Admiral has ordered the Grand Navy to refocus on the Marauding Sea for now. He does not want any more losses to be taken in less important seas. Due to this Admiral Locke and Verdi have been recalled from the Vimir/Nimbus blockade and Makrinaos mission. Any further sighting of the Corsair Lords will be treated with greater care from now on. Rear Admiral Adkins’ Paratiritis have been ordered to retreat to Shieldguard for now. Ideally The Warden can be contacted soon.
