you’re right, but people absolutely have to be masochists to enjoy lineage games like rogueblox.

tell me what the permadeath is tied into, how does it interact with the gameplay loop?

  2. in this specific game you have 3 lives, 4 lives by getting your super. if you die all 3-4 times, you wipe your progress and start over again.. gameplay loop is just reprogressing your character, or trying something new or a new build idea… theres a good bit of variety . on top of that you can craft life crystals which give you lives.

the game is supposed to be hardcore, where things ACTUALLY matter and you have shit on the line.. that is why people like these games because you have a lot to lose, as well as a lot to gain

it’s like rogue lineage for kids (not literally) but yeah… and to be honest a game like deepwoken is barely even harcore or permadeath unless your new.. it’s lost its vision. while rogueblox still has those key permadeath features and thats why people like it. same as rogue but its like 200x more hardcore

you can only parry criticals, thats really it.. i wouldnt called it a parry system game

rogueblox has existed before deepwoken and it plays more like rogue

What I’m saying is that if the permadeath system exists solely as a glorified file reset and doesn’t interact with the gameplay loop in any way other than setting you back to 0, the developers just added it to add it. No purpose beyond filling a checkbox so they can call themselves a lineage game lol.

Sure, its ā€œhArDcOrEā€ but its a game design atrocity we should really stop normalizing.

If nothing would change about the game if you replaced the permadeath system with a file reset button, its shitty permadeath.

  1. you can teleport to certain cities or locations where the quests are near.. but yeah you have to walk maybe a few minutes to your quest oh no!

  2. because thats part of the game :sob: you are not supposed to get lives back easily, and in my opinion the systems in place are fine (you regain 1 life when you get yoru super , and when you get ur ultra) and you can farm life crystals. thats already way more than rogue ever did

  3. thats annoying yea, but the developers have made it so there isn’t a point for ultra classes to gank freshies and gave rewards for fighting same level players. you don’t see it as much anymore.

  4. they do when you are attacking npcs and mobs, yeah they won’t attack you when you are fighting a player :joy:

i do agree some games put permadeath for like no reason, just to appeal to a specific playerbase.. even in anime games where it makes less sense. i’m always up for games who actually have a refined permadeath system but unfortuntely roblox developers are pretty shitty at making their game make sense

If I see ā€œinspired by rogue lineageā€ in the description, or ā€œlineageā€ in the title, that usually (100% of the time so far) tells me everything about how much the game’s systems were thought through.

im aware im barging into the converstation but permadeath is acceptable on ONE condition…

permadeath will is acceptable IF it ties into the games lore as long as the lore is well written.

hmm maybe by definition calling it deepwoken clone is wrong, I still feel like the game has issues that just push me away from it.

When I played it, the tutorial was well made and it made me wanna play it but when I played it for a while It felt really unengaging and a lot of time was spent walking around doing nothing and looking for enemies.

I mean compare it to rune slayer for example, Right after I get into the game I already have a familiar environment where things speed track me into the game cuz the ā€œstarting elementsā€ are right off spawn and also flow me into the game.

The only think rogueblox flowed me into was the tutorial and mining, after that I was just dropped into what felt purely like a waste of time and after a higher level player tried to kill me I just left and didn’t hop back because the perma death despite being minor still annoys me for no good reason

Wipes can progress your character if certain conditions are met, momentos are gained upon wiping with an ultra or after doing certain easter eggs around the map and these are used to upgrade your character whether it be race rerolls, gift rerolls, or actual upgrades. You can do some permanent upgrades like carry capacity or upgrades to make wiping less impactful (certain tools on spawn, certain amount of mana training on spawn, etc.) There are also Gifts which are progressed by doing a method specific to your Gift and then wiping to lock it in. Gifts are primarily aid in PvE besides one and once again greatly help with the grind after wiping, not just getting back your stuff but they’re even useful when you’re fully progged and kitted out. Lastly there are artifacts that are obtained by doing a hyper specific method on one slot and wiping, but those are the most endgame item and I wouldn’t really count those for the gameplay loop.

The game could exist without permadeath, but that applies to nearly every roguelike game even off of Roblox (that’s why roguelites came to exist.) This game at least didn’t add it just to add it though, as wiping can be beneficial and it also isn’t even that harsh unless you’re on 1 life as an ultra with minmaxed gear to the point you can’t pass all of it down

You know what that actually sounds like they have the makings of a good system in place.
