yeah but fs can switch freely while magic can’t, why?
I remember i once said that there’s no good reason mage builds should have a harder time changing their kit than berserker builds. I still think thats true but the problem is you’ve got metamancers who would very quickly just hop to a new magic when their old ones become slightly less optimal in pvp or pve. There’s also stuff like lore accuracy which may not mean alot to the community but probably means alot to vetex.
So here is the genius solution:
You simply make fighting styles harder to switch. When you go to a trainer and learn a new fs, you won’t get the fighting style until 48 hours (timer continues offline) has passed after which you can select which slot to put it on. It’s fair to mages, it’s lore accurate (i think?), zerkers can’t quickly hop to a new fighting style when nerfs hit the build.
It’s absolute cinema
(partially ironic post)
Yeah and we already have weapon/strength metamancers who can already just hop to the meta almost instantly.
1- Realism/Logic
2- Fs and magic aren’t the same thing
3- Magic overall is stronger than an fs (because it doesn’t need to be upclose to deal dmg plus it has synergies)
exactly, thats why im saying you chuck fs builds in the same boat as mages
fair, this is realistically why hecate exists but isnt a reason to make it very hard to obtain
doesn’t mean one has to be harder to change
doesnt mean hecate should be hard to find just that magic must be balanced
i just wanna say that in full release hecate will be much easier to find and really we wont even have a problem anymore
Make them serch for Ares’s essence and Heaphestus’s essence for fs/weapon change respectively
It really can’t be balanced because it’s a finite thing that can’t be learned while fighting styles have mentors everywhere.
Also the rarity will be compensated by the bug fixes and the render increase.
Eitherway you can’t argue much because Vetex already decided on something that wasn’t even planned to begin with
???
did you just tell magics can’t be balanced what? all im saying is that for it to be for hecate just has to be easier to find (already being adressed in full release)
well yeah thats the problem, vetex also said he wouldnt add a pvp toggle look where we are now… this is a stupid arguement
They will be easier to find because bugs regarding its spawninf will be fixed (plus some additions that i fucking forgot because they all appeared in ome card a long ass time ago)
Yeah but the difference between PvP toggle and thr hecate is abyssal tier
Pvp has affected the entire community since forever, people didn’t want to participate in fights yet were forced to.
magic change was needed within a sub community (magic builds), but if we are more specific, that group gets smaller if you count people who didn’t want to delete their files to get a preferred magic.
yeah i alr said this
… hes gonna say something stupid isnt he?
yup…
this doesnt prove anything. just because the pvp toggle affect a bigger portion of the community (which is debatable as poll data shows 65% of arcane odyssey players run a magic build) doesnt change the fact that vetex can change his mind (just look at balance changes half of the stuff he’s vetoed has made it in)
ps. magic has sensing geared toward the dark sea making finding one these way easier for the people who need them
I’m pretty sure essence wasn’t mentioned as one of the things mages can sense, so the other things would really only be a distraction
Vetex would have to be crazy to make it so we can sense random buildings but not the blob of pure magic god energy.
This entire concept for magic sensing is geared specifically for hunting rare structures in the dark sea, if it can’t see the one thing specifically important for the very people who can use the ability, then it completely fails.
Not to mention the backlash for such a pointless limitation, a whole bunch of people have already been thoroughly pissed off by hecate essence. Giving everyone hope with this reveal and then saying ‘lol no’ would explode straight in his face.
it does let you sense islands themselves which is actually pretty useful in the third rage or at low graphics
I have a better idea
When you switch to a new fighting style, you will have a 48 hour cooldown before switching again. You will also need to achieve mastery with your current fighting style before switching
How about that ritual of the witch suggestion except its extremely hard and it changes your first magic?
The community very well wants everyone to have the exact same “opinion” where we must be able to switch class and loadouts (from ash/magma mage ----> sailor/patrimony juggernaut) completely freely, mirroring the real life meta of interpreting tradition and values into a more liberal agenda. Things like allowing women to be priests, or this case, having an easier way to change magics for one file, are all just attempts made by the community to warp the game into their own image, despite how vetex wants the best for his game by doing things on his vision.
But anyways, magic is like your personality or anything that you’re born with, like blood type, height, and your ancestry. There’s nothing in real life I could do to change that. Imagine if there’s a way I could turn into a woman and completely detach or remove myself from my past as a guy. That’s why I don’t believe you should change your magic in the game, because choosing your magic IS a permanent decision that you MUST consider. Before the addition of hecates essence, I know the tooltip said something along the lines of “Choose wisely, as you cannot change your magic after creating your character”, and I’m quite frankly disappointed in vetex for NOT sticking with his own plan for the game and for fending for himself. He’s right in assuming this community is fucked, and I totally understand why he interacts in the forums MOSTLY on deeply polarizing issues relating to the dev and balance team.
If you say that grindy activities are “bad game design”, what do YOU want for AO?
Another reason why our community is fucked. They always say “If something can mean anything, then it has no meaning”.
Yeah let’s ignore the fact that each pure build plays COMPLETELY differently from each other and that hybrids inherit traits from several builds. Trying to reduce the disparity would mean talks about aligning one class towards another, you see the issue here?
well fuck me i guess
