This would literally solve 100% of my issue with it.
As long as I can know with 100% certainty that I am not wasting my time running around on an island that has an above 90% chance to not have what I want on it then I’m good.
hell, that’d make searching an orthys sized island completely reasonable.
Here’s how I see it:
There’s three problems with essence and fixing any one of them would make the other two much more managable.
1: Dark sea islands are far too big.
2: Essence is far too rare.
3: There is no indicator for essence.
So if I’m supposed to cluelessly search an orthys sized island, the odds should be good.
If I’m supposed to search orthys sized islands with bad odds, then I should know if what I’m looking for is even there.
If I’m supposed to cluelessly search a whole lot of dark sea islands, they should be reasonably sized.
If more than one of these problems were solved then honestly it’d be incredibly easy.
Besides the quartermaster callout thing, i think lowering the chance of Orthys-grade islands to Hecate odds with the tradeoff that Hecate is certain or near certain to spawn on those would make exploring those huge islands worth the stop.
Honestly doesn’t even have to be a quartermaster, we’re literal descendants of the gods and apparently also the strongest of the legacies, so it would make complete sense that we’d be able to feel or resonate with the presence of a shard of a god’s essense
I think just being able to know Hecate essence actually is somewhere on the giant island might be enough to solve the issues with it. It may even make it feel a bit more meaningful, because now you have a definitive goal that you know will be accomplished if you keep going. Earlier, giant islands sucked because there’s a very high chance that even if you look at every nook, there will be no essence but only atlanteans giving you a spook.
Now, if you know that there IS essence on this island, it could actually feel like an adventure because you’re knowing that there’s something that makes it valuable to keep going.
idk why I decided to become Dr. Seuss for this but just roll with it, I think that Hecate essence would be fixed if we at least knew if the giant island in front of was useful to hit.
it’s easier to change your build in Elden Ring dawg they have the location of every respec item in the game on the damn wiki and you’ll probably find at least one by just randomly stumbling across it
I’d comment on the actual difficulty of Elden Ring and how it compares to AO but that’ll derail into a conversation about artificial difficulty and enemy attack spam
while I’m here I’d also like to comment on how this highlights another problem with Hecate Essence: if you find it and have no intention of changing your magic (say you’re looking for epicenter or something), then it’s just completely wasted because there’s no way for you to take it with you and it’ll just disappear forever once the server closes
not really the biggest concern but it’d probably still be annoying
