Man, I just wanna try new things and not need to grind out whole new files each and every time to do it.
Especially when every other class gets to do it for free.
There’s over 20 magics in the game, WAY more in the future with losts and ancients probably.
Asking people to never ever try anything else sucks!

Out of curiosity, how many files do you have maxed currently? I completely get you if you want to just stay on one slot as a “main” and hence have this problem in a more extreme manner than myself.
The wiki is right, sunken champion is 1/1,500. But that’s not actually telling the truth, the chance of sunken champion is 1/1,500 WHEN CATCHING AN ITEM BAG, which i belive is around 1/5 (although never stated specifically so not known)
Which makes it in reality around 1/7,500 for any piece and 1/22,500 for any specific piece. Meanwhile, charts are 1/7000 with a gold rod.
Three.
Two are still at level 125 from pre-nimbus, one’s a sand conjuror and the other’s a crystal conjuror.
My main file is a poison/acid mage that used to be an explosion conjuror.

I think I’m seeing the issue then. In comparison, I have 9 maxed slots currently (5 of which are Lightning Magic - the rest don’t even use magic). I rarely use Acrimonies, and I have only found one Hecate Essence in my playtime (just to experience the difficulty).
Here’s just a snippet of what I’ve ran.
Everytime I want a new slot I level it up, is this time consuming? Yes. Do I have enough time to continue doing this everytime I want a new build currently? Not atall.
Making peace with what’s available is important, and I believe I’ve embraced such a concept wholeheartedly - to the point that the work I put in into an entirely different area ti the majority of people who want to change their build entirely paid off, and now I think I’ll never need a Hecate Essence (or even an Acrimony) for the rest of Arcane Odyssey’s lifespan.
Also out of curiosity, do you not enjoy these files? Crystal is my second favourite magic after lightning and it’s definitely something worth taking a look into if you want to get hooked onto something unique.

Oh I did enjoy those files, I just made them to try out the magics.
I settled on poison because I wanted the purple dark magic lol.
Its been doing quite well for me so far, much more enjoyable than explosion.
So yeah if you fish in ar using a golden rod, assuming the base chance for an item bag is 1/5 (which is a high estimate based on my experience)
You have a 3.2x higher chance of obtaining a legendary chart than a sunken champion chestplate.
Assuming the base chance of a bag is 1/10, the chance of a sunken champion chestplate becomes 1/45,000 or around 6.4x higher than a legendary chart
This is assuming sunken warrior is not clogging up the pool
Trust me you should cop an acrimony and swap to Crystal Mage - it’s by far my favourite build you can do with Crystal. 
If you’ve gotta make do with what you have because of this egregious development choice - making the most out of your three slots and what you’d enjoy on those magics is worth taking a peek into.

In the meantime, though, I’m going to keep doing what I can to maybe get this changed so we don’t have to make do with an egregious development choice.

also are those like decent slots to play on (fast brig, marking shovel, etc.) or are they like bare minimum PVP ready slots (like just speedran story and cross-traded a nice build onto)

The majority of those slots I mentioned have been erased, but the 9 I have currently all have completed builds, completed ship builds & maxed deckhands.
Doing all of this took me a long time because I barely have enough time for AO.
