i would guess it’s because if we did it by just learning the new magic, we would still have our old one, so we instead have hecate swap out the magic we do know for a new one
and also learning a new magic isn’t so easy, it’s on the same level as an awakening
For something that’s meant to be very rare and hard to get, you would think it’d be easier to spot
biggest L take i’ve seen from you ngl
I mean frankly it would add up.
I hate to say it but it absolutely is a possibility given how this is designed.
It does feel like it was made with absolutely zero respect for the player’s time whatsoever.
I don’t change my magics that often, and I don’t know how much other people try to do so. Is it really that bad that something like this requires some effort to get? And I like the idea of different stats having different strengths, such as build versatility (just equip a different weapon vs find a trainer and get some fighting experience vs needing to go on a non-trivial journey to change your magic), it gives them even more of their own identity.
Though statements like this make me question whether this is a big deal at all, or just someone feeling entitled to whatever is behind even the slightest bit of effort.
I understand that, but people have spent upwards of 24 cumulative hours if not more by this point trying to find even a single one.
Some people failing even then.
People have quit the game, people have erased their files with tens if not hundreds of hours of work put into them just to get around this mechanic.
That deserves answers.
Specifically answers for why it was made this way in the first place and why vetex has stayed completely silent on it since release.
I have changed magics quite a few times before giving the game a break and the worst part isn’t that it takes effort, it’s that the grind itself is just fucking dreadful and has no sense of progression to it. You just sail and explore for hours on complete darkness while avoiding level 400 atlanteans and hoping that you won’t die to any dark sea bs
The question we’ve all been asking for a year at this point
tell me youve never tried to get hecate essence without telling me youve never tried to get hecate essence
this is either ragebait or you genuinely only learned what hecate essence is 2 minutes ago
No, it hasn’t been anywhere near a year, just about three months.
Which is still bad, but not a year.
because players were never meant to be able to swap magics, but he found a way to work it into the lore. he still doesnt want people to do it frequently so he made it hard to get.
its NOT that deep man
Gameplay Quality >>>>> Lore Accuracy
He didn’t have to retcon anything or make it work into the lore, promethean acrimonies don’t work into the lore at all and they’re fine.
Sounds to me like the problem can be fixed by having more and greater loot in the higher insanity levels, not just sealeds but pocket loot that isn’t lost on death, so even if you don’t get what you want, it’ll not be a wasted effort, you’ll be finding treasure as you explore the islands. I think that would keep the singularity of the essence while making each expedition less all or nothing.
I disagree with this too, loot like you’re describing already exists in the far reaches.
Golden cauldrons and cooking pots. They fix nothing.
When I go to the far reaches, I am looking for a magic reset, nothing else.
Getting some fancy glowing potions is nice and all but I’m still stuck with a fundamental part of my build being something I do not enjoy using.
can a patreon just talk to vetex on this?
Done tried that.
Either the patreon completely ignored me or vetex ignored them and they didn’t tell me.
if thats true, then the only way to get his attention is to raise another class names incident. He gets mad when people get disrespectful and loud but the only time he listens to the community is when the people do exactly that
So here we are!
I really wish I didn’t have to do all of this to get any response whatsoever, but quite clearly I do!
Believe me, this is not the first thing I’ve tried.
I follow many games and for the life of me I’ll never understand why developers refuse to tweak a single number when the entire community is asking for it
More loot won’t fix not getting what you want, that is true, that post was aimed at the idea that there’s no sense of progression. The current offerings may be insufficient for that now, but as more things are added there’ll be more opportunities for even a failed attempt to get the essence to walk away with something good.
As for not getting the essence without any concern with any other potential side rewards, what are some potential solutions? I don’t think decreasing the rarity is the right call, the essence is supposed to be rare, special, not just an average part of the scenery for those that find it without searching for it.
Because more often than not, the player will argue in favor of instant gratification without a thought put towards the game as a whole. And players can be wrong about things, I’ve played other games where players would get upset over things not being how they want, and then it turns out to be a skill issue on their part.
