I think all things have a little bit of chaos, which is quite similar to mana as it is mana in a purer form. Curses rely on pure chaos instead of mana, maybe.

The curses are manifestations of chaos, and so absorbing one basically gives you another, “chaos” gene, which can be used with pure chaos, which transcends the limits of normal magic, as it is used with a purer, more powerful form. SO basically, your body absorbs chaos and that chaos gene will only be able to conduct chaos in certain ways.
