How good is my ship and how could I improve it?

Yeah that basically sums up everything I would have wanted to say

Except for one final point
With a high speed ship you have to constantly be paying attention at all times otherwise you crash into things or miss islands that may only be visible briefly
With slower ships you can actually afford to be able to look at other things as well, or even go to clear water poisoning without finding yourself somewhere you don’t want to be afterwards.

Are Ravenna Deserters really needed (minus durability maxing)? 300 durability is worth less than the Sailors 5% more resilience imo, even if ram defense sucks.

you could not possibly be more wrong.
yes, some waves just spawn ontop of you but that’s a rarity.
I’ve almost dodged every wave between the start of dark sea and the 5th range.

I sink atlantean ships easily and take very little damage because I can get out of their firing lines very quickly.

I’ve literally accidentally rammed a heavily armored atlantean brig, said “oh shit”, and proceeded to just chainshot them and sail away until the (very good) music stopped.

Devil’s advocate, go hybrid.

going hybrid means you won’t be fast enough to reliably escape ship encounters but also won’t be tanky enough to take them down effectively if you make any mistake.

also on this note:

If the island is so obscenely big that me moving at 125 speed forces it to fail generation then I wouldn’t even explore that island anyways lol.
I’d just be annoyed trying to sail around it.

Okay clearly we have different experiences with dodging waves but honestly if you can somehow manage it the constant gauntlet of waves then good on you. Same goes with hitting Atlantean ships, ig, but okay, you got the hit n’ run down better than I do. For the last point, I swear it takes Atlanteans longer to react if you accidentally ram one but meh I think I’m just tweaking on that one.

If you’re having trouble dodging waves, try it with clearsight potions.
Its also more of a turning speed thing than a speed thing.

Yeah I’ve tried to do that, somehow seeing more overwhelms my brain with calculations of trying to dodge it rather than actually dodging it. Mindlessly sailing with a defense maxed brig is much easier and I can just wait for Waves Crash to end rather than sailing through it to rest my brain.

You’re technically not supposed to be beyond the Insanity 1 or 2 regions. So if you’re talking about that, go speed, otherwise, yes. You should have enough durability to deal with Atlantean ships. If we’re talking about those, however, then getting steering would be pretty important (arguably more so than durability for ship combat).

I have ship build that has these follow stats
23.600 Durability
100% Resilience and 100% Stability
118 Speeds (this without equip any cannon and siege weapon)
64 Turning speed
2100 Ram Durability
3736 Ram Strength
500 Magic energy

Is that why it takes me so long to find dark sea islands :sob:

So how would I have good turning + decent speed + durability

Yes :skull:

How am I supposed to get that with high defense+ turning :sob:

You dont really need 100%, 95% or 90% is still good enough. But 100% is more beginner/low effort friendly. Still good even if you arent a beginner and are fine with putting in the effort of repairing when necessary tho

Before the update, this was exactly what you would want to do when dark sealed grinding. Going to i2+ would get you loot way faster than grinding in i0 or i1. With a sub 100 speed brig it would take you genuinely like 20 min to get to i2 if not more :sob:. As for now, you still likely want to go to i2 to grind there. The atlanteans there are usually still not too highly leveled and you could just focus on siren islands only instead. Better to get 4 dark sealeds per siren island than 3 since youll need to go up there twice anyways. Also, like theoretical said, you can dodge waves with the fastest brig, especially if you have a decent amount of turning (which they usually have anyways). Ofc you cant dodge all waves, but you can dodge at least like 70% of waves if you want to (not all waves are worth the effort of dodging).

Tho, you are right about a tanky brig being much more afk friendly since you wont be repairing nearly as much nor do you really need to worry about any hazards that much.

As for fighting atlantean ships, a high speed brig vs a tanky brig doesnt really make much of a diff in fighting them. The high speed brig would take like 1-2k dmg out of 14k durability purely because of npc mortars (like 3-4 shipbuilder repairs), while the tanky brig would likely take about 6k dmg from their mortars + cannons (also like 3-4 shipbuilder repairs). As for the speed of sinking atlantean ships, nothing really changes if you can just position your cannons well with either brig.

But yeah thats just the dark sea. A speedy brig is 100% better in the regular seas so that saves you the effort of switching your brig build every time you go in and out of the ds too
