so we know that one of the biggest features in AO is gonna be the magic itself, and how the magics interact with one another is probably one of the more important mechanics of the game, negative and positive synergies are something to consider when it comes to combat no doubt about it, but how actually important is the feature in combat considering all kinds of new features that have been implemented in magic, and how much should magic combos be based around it?
for example, is synergy A soley better than synergy B because of the interactions? or is there more at play?
unless you’re a mage It probably won’t really concern most players. Warriors have to worry about clashes and bleed may be counted for conjurors but most people won’t think about synergies.
warlocks use fighting styles and magic. It depends on what magic they have but in most cases why would they? Their fighting styles might inflict certain effects but the damage change in most cases is only 10% or so.
If I play warlock I’m not gonna think about synergies heavily and just choose a magic I like and fighting style that looks cool.
Not to mention most statuses, like burned, soaked, or poisoned last for a set time before vanishing. If you can’t land a hit before then the effect is wasted.
if you looked at the examples above that I added in the topic, do you agree that one of them is better or are there multiple factors that could make them more equal?
explosion and fire is better for DoT while iron and lightning better for heavy hitting. If you fight someone who can dodge well the first would be better. Otherwise the second is pretty good for taking out low level npcs.
For a mage, most likely quite important. You probably want to make sure your base magics are synergised, as it could be a while before lost/ancients are added. I’m probably going to go with the standard ice/water/metal combo and eventually replace water with lunar and metal with shatter. My original plan was to go ice/water/light/blizzard/shatter but I changed it due to the kinda expected removal of the eventuality of 5 magics.
In short, if you want to deal more damage, yes.
