With every game that has you gradually advance in power, there will be character to fight that are for some reason, weaker than they normally should be. This way you can fight a significantly powerful figure, but with a reason for them to be so beatable.
The question is, how long is this going to be happening for?
Iris was still learning, and she also wasn’t that significant to the greater scheme of things.
Shura was identical
Elius was just some kid with above-average bow training and rich parents.
Carina was identical
Argos is a sad old man
Calvus is just terrible at training himself.
Maria actually seems to have been giving it her all, and she’s fairly important, considering that she helped to stop any travel between two seas. So she’s good for it.
Evander seems like he’s supposed to be strong, he just really isn’t. This is pretty much the root of the dilemma. We have a character who acts like he’s supposed to be tough, and he has, what, 500k bounty? He’s just not that tough.
I don’t think we know enough about Alpha to say that he should be anything, so let’s skip him.
Kai, Kalliste, Amelia, and Merlot seem right. They’re just not the strongest guys you can find, and that’s okay.
Well, except Amelia, she’s just cracked, and there’s not much to say about it.
One big problem with the current bosses is that Julian isn’t one. Ever heard of “Show, don’t tell”? I would have loved to have a terrible fighting chance at beating Julian for just a moment, even if he had a really simple moveset, and then being taken down after being hit once or twice. I would have loved to see the true power of a Sea Curse displayed. Instead we have the snotty runt that sent us to jail.
YOU FOOL, THIS ENTIRE THREAD WAS MADE TO COMPLAIN ABOUT GENERAL JULIAN!!!
I’m ngl from the little we’ve seen from Julian’s glass curse usage, he seems pretty… stupid to say the least.
smashing into us at high velocity AND SCREAMING AS LOUD AS POSSIBLE BEFORE EVEN ATTACKING TO WARN US OF THEM COMING is quite frankly a pointless, savage, undignified, and even detrimental way of attacking when he could’ve just turned into glass himself while remaining silent so he’d become invisible, and then snipe us in the head with a sharp bolt or something. The only reason he beat us is because he’s technically stronger and has a big AoE, but I 100% guarantee you he will not be surviving us in a fair 1v1.
Same thing with when he fought morden, instead of, oh I dunno, getting the speed advantage by making shards of glass that would impale his opponent before they could land a hit, Julian just… turned his arm into glass and… made a giant glass smash thing? the whole process was unbelievably slow and inefficient.
2 stars in terms of curse power feels almost too generous for ranking Ravenna’s curse power, because holy frick, Julian is such a fraud.
Similarly, in AA (and even AR as well) every boss faced is weakened either physically or mentally.
People were either unable to think clearly due to being undead or angry, or were weaker than normal by either limiting themselves or by having just been in a fight.
Not to mention you and Neviro literally run right by him in a hallway where he could’ve easily made some kind of effort to stop you from passing him
That being said he did deal enough damage to put the death curse user into a coma for like a month (the MC sails across the entire ocean to meditate in a few specific places, and sailing takes longer canonically)
The so called “future savior of the seven seas” and “one of strongest magic user in existence” having to fight all of their opponents in a weakened state
-he could’ve gone invisible, not made a sound, and just, aimed with some kind of ranged beam attack
-it didn’t even have to be that small, probably any decently fast and large projectile could’ve worked
but instead of doing that, he slammed himself into the side of the mountain like a dumbass and spent a solid 4-7 seconds rebuilding his yee yee ass haircut and nonexistent jawline because he has the IQ equivalent to that of someone who unironically uses the term “contemporary art”
I mean… his in-game power level was over 1.5 million, while 10% theos was at only 200k~ish, I think it’s safe to assume that he isn’t holding back (he also shows up because YOU are destroying alalea, there is not much left to break)
Well yeah if he is holding back it isn’t by much.
I think the main thing he is doing is just not turning the entire island into a big cloud of ash because that would kill literally everyone there and I don’t think cursebeard would be happy. Probably why he puts in the effort to use ash drop because it’s very much a single target thing.
I think some of yall are missing the fact he’s egotistical. Of course his actions aren’t “efficient,” he doesn’t have to try and he knows it. He knew he’d catch our ass on othrys no matter what, why not get a little ego boost? He lets us and neviro pass cause as far as he cares we’re just dead meat in the center of a guarded castle, why not focus on the dude that snatched your King’s curse?
But imo I’m a sad little loser that would probably freak out getting a op npc thrown at my face, but I already suck at combat plus the story aspect ain’t bad so I support it.
