I calculated the irl size of ao

thanks to this map made by some game mods (not me)

its a very rough estimation

so mount othrys irl is 22 miles wide and 16 miles tall, as you can see on the map the width is more than twice the height so its not totally to scale.

from windrow to the entrance of mount othrys (under the temple) its around 2000 meters, as from the storyline portion (however its probably a bit more since the first part only leads you to the vicinity of mount othrys)
roughly speaking it looks to be around half the length of othrys, so my estimation for the length of othrys is ~4000m. now, people can calculate it more specifically by going in game and using complicated math but im not doing that lol

now, for the height of the map. from one of soleils early videos, you can see that from darkpine to ravenna is around 3.5k meters, and (again) using very rough estimation i put the maps height to be around 8000m, give or take a few thousand.

taking othrys’ game to irl scale, which is 4000:22, the height of the bronze sea would be around 44 miles.

then we take this random thing i found, put it into a calculator and

sailing the entire height of the bronze sea would take 5 hours and 28 minutes

now this is probably not the case at it took calvus like 2 days or smth to go to palo town (i forgor) but yeaaaa

Thats… surprisingly small.

If calvus took 2 days to get across that, bro must’ve been using a dinky little rowboat to get around.

Bro probably swam there without a boat

Insanely small considering the assumed speed is 7 knots, it would take like 30-40 minutes to cover the same distance on a car

Me when AO lore inaccuracy :pensive:

I’m pretty sure there are some story parts where we sail from place to place and the dates have a couple days between them, implying some places take a few days to sail between (don’t have my laptop to check rn but I’ll try to later). I’m sure in-world the sea’s a lot larger than the game map

But this is pretty cool to know either way

it is, you cant tell me palo has thousands of people living in it and like 10 houses to support them all
and you also cant tell me all those ravenna ships suddenly lose us in the 700M stretch betweeen ravenna and windrow

nah the game is just not accurate at displaying distance, the sea would’ve been bigger if its populations were correct

iirc we sail from (insert location) to Ravenna in a day so…

Wait a minute… Didn’t he lie when he say hes goin to palo? Cause what i remember is he went to the dark sea to find the death curse (but morden snatched it lol)

They feel less like seas and more like a part of an archipelago
take it from someone who lives on one, but it’s also somehow even smaller.

You could also try to use the meters distancing via quest markers and create a ruler legend for the map, then calculate the approximate distance via that since this estimate seems a lil smol for a sea, its more like just a large lake

:fr:

Calvus went for 1 insanity 5 dark sea adventure, during which he fought 10 legendary atlanteans, chased by a fleet of 50 Atlantean brigs, keep getting struck by lightning and looted 100 islands before returning at the east of whitesummit, which then he sailed his 1hp ship and accidentally crashed into the stepstones. He then decided to swim to Palo and during that time he almost ran out of stamina. Bronze legion ship come in clutch and brought him to Palo Town

If distance was realistic, sure the game would be more immersive but It would take like 30 minutes to get from islaand to island, the game would become the turbulent seas.

arent you a game mod tho technically

Maple wasnt a mod then ig ( i dont really remember when did he become one )

i was but idk why thatd matter

it matters very much actually ( i dont know why )

Probably because people expect you too have every knowledge of the game
(not)
